I want to set time limit for some aticles, say some articles should expire after 24hours and after that I should be able to archive it. Can this be achieved?

Yes, there are modifications available to do such things.

You can achieve this by using the "Move Threads" tool within the ACP. It is not automatically done, but it is a way to move a bunch of threads.
