The frontpage isn't done, and I'm still not finalized on some details such as link locations and whatnot, but its by and large done, so I thought I'd get some feedback going on it. All input is welcome!

Looks good. :)
Thanks, intricatic.
By the way, if someone running IE6 can poke around the site and tell me if anything looks messed up, I'd appreciate it. My stand alone version of IE6 on my computer keeps freezing up my system when I launch it. The site is XHTML valid, but...well...it's IE6, after all.

I'd check it out for you, but I only have IE7 and I almost never use it.
I have to say, though, your graphics are excellent and it seems like you have a really well thought-out category/forum layout (on Firefox 2.0).

Thumbs up for the design!! I would be 267 years old before I can do such a nice design.

Good deal. Thanks again, intricatic.

Thanks, budatalk!
Now I just need to work out content for the rest of the site, then start trying to cultivate some traffic (the part that is the most aggrevating).

That looks fantastic.
Thanks, Chris! As does your site, which has a lot more of a focused topic than mine. Guitar has always been my main instrument, but I never played a seven string outside of noodling around with them in music stores.

good stuff , good work , but those top buttons need to be fixed.
Keyboards, vocals , etc... way too tiny , i think you should make them BIGGER and more PRESENTABLE , other than that, your forum is very neat and easy going.
Good work !!
8.5/10 !

Thanks for the additional feedback, all!
I just finished doing some more tweaking. I redid the navigation along the top for the individual instrument forums, creating buttons and a layout that more closely matched the design meme I'm using on the frontpage (http://www.musiciansnook.com).

good work , looks better now , text is still tiny , but i guess the images make up for that.
Good work.

I'm trying to keep the site collapsible sans scrolling down to resolutions of at least 1024x768, as well as preserve space for possible ads or additional links in the future. That's why I've been keeping the buttons up there relatively small.
As you say, Xtrato, the new images should allow folks to easily discern each button link's destination.

Boy oh boy...that's some beautiful site my friend! Love the color scheme and layout...home run so far!
How did you get that skin done the way that you did? I'm brand new (you can see by my site having hardly any changes/alterations from the basic at all) and I could use some tips on layout and design.

Glad you like it, ArnyVee! If you have any questions about how to do something specific that you see in Musicans' Nook, just ask. Most of the customization you see there was done in the header and footer templates only. For the sake of making future upgrades as painless as possible, I avoided doing too much to the other templates aside from a little extra touch here and there (the bit of customization on the postbit template, for instance).

Thanks for the kind words, guys! And thank you, Chris, for the BoTM nomination. I'm afraid it might be a bit early for that as it still has that new site smell and little traffic as yet, but its great to be nominated, no doubt. :)

Bah, well Marco axed the nomination since it's not my site, but the thought's still there. Cheers man. :)

And the thought is all that counts, Chris. :)
Glad you like it, christian8a, and thanks for signing up there!
Despite planning on waiting until vB 3.7 went gold, I went ahead and fancied up the forumhome categories. I'm taking a gamble that those particular templates won't be modified between now and gold. I don't think there would be any reason for them to be, but if there is, I'll just update them then. I got too antsy go ahead and customize them.

Very nice. For a moment I thought I heard music playing.:)

I'm not a fan of dark skins, but...... I LOVE it! Professional, sleek, polished, images are gorgeous. You've done an awesome job!
You'll have my vote when you do decide to enter the BotM contest ;)

Thanks for the additional comments, all.
I believe I've done enough additional work on the site to warrant a bumping of this thread to garner some more feedback. Individual category graphics, customized breadcrumb, reworked header and more roundy bits are just some of the things I've done since the last post in this thread.
I hope to be able to do even more soon once I get some free time. And promote, promote, promote.

I just finished up a light theme for it. I prefer dark themes myself, but I think I'm in the minority there so far as the general internet masses goes.

Last bump, I swear. I just completed the Ivory theme. Basically, it's a complete redesign of what I had when I first posted this thread. Be sure to check out the threads too, as I took some time to customize little things like the quote boxes. Here is a link to a thread: http://forum.musiciansnook.com/showthread.php?t=22
The final big thing I need to do so far as the forum goes is redo the member profile page. I've still not decided if I want to give it a big makeover or use Drupal?which is what I'm using for the frontpage software?for the main member profiles.

GORGEOUS, beautiful. One of the best looking if not the best looking site I have seen out there. Very aesthetically appealing. Can I hire you?

I loved your dark theme, but the new one is as beautiful. Great work, and very promising website!
