Description:
SmnLikQuick v2.0 adds an advanced announcement block (Title and Content) to your vBulletin powered pages that is easily managed via AdminCP. This new version (based on the AJAX Tabs Content Script (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/ajaxtabscontent/index.htm) (v 2.0) written by Dynamic Drive), utilizes Ajax to display multiple announcements in one container when the title (tab) is clicked on. It also has the ability (and utilizes this ability upon install) to rotate between tabs (announcements) in a "slideshow" type manner until a user explicitly clicks on a tab (see screenshots provided).

Please Note that there is a new setting that allows Admins to choose whether to parse BB Code or HTML (not both). It is reccomended that you parse BB for security reasons, however the choice is yours.

The most common problem when it shows up as a "list" instead of Tabs is that the path to the .css for the Tabs is not correct.

which was completed in Template Edit One... Does this show up? If not, then the templates were not edited correctly (or the correct templates were not edited).. This is why links are useful... so that I can view and pinpoint the problem easier... Just saying "it doesn't work" doesn't help us much in determining the issue... And I see the error but have no way of reading it from the screenshot.... I've installed this hack, per instructions, 30+ times on several different versions of vB and have run into no problems... All my boards are ran with php4 however, so have someone testing on php5 tomorrow... I'm working hard to get this matter fixed for you... Please have patience.

if so, that would be in the smnlikquick template.. the .init sets the time in micro seconds, just change it higher or lower to decrease or increase the intervals.

One question, I do see loading when it is switching from one screen to the other but the loading symbol does not show up. I do recall seeing the file in the upload folder.

The graphic included is in upload>forums>images>misc>loading.gif

You can check/change this graphic/path in the upload>forums>clientscript>smnlikquick_ajax.js file on line 6 (Along with the "Loading..." text)..
If taking out the / in the other file worked... doing the same in this file might help as well... or you could try putting the full url...

I am soo sorry but I am bit confused on this one... You want the tabs themselves to run from right to left... or the text.... I thought about this for quite a while and managed to only confuse myself... I was actually learning Arabic for quite a while but never mastered the writing... same words but I couldn't help but write them from left to right... hence why I didn't do so well LOL In the end, I could hold a convo outloud but on paper.. nothing LOL

How did you get an image into the announcement?

When adding a new announcement... HTML is allowed. So I simply linked to one of the graphics I already had on site (one of our smilies in that case)... I thought about adding a feature that would give the announcement their own graphic upload... like an icon where threads are concerned. I had originally decided against it because I wanted total control over the whole announcement (and where any graphics I added where)... But now I'm thinking it might be a good idea =0)

What`s the problem?

The box only shows if you have active announcements. Had you already added announcements?

Yikes, that's not good =0( And so far I haven't been able to recreate this issue on any of my test sites.... Can you try something for me tho? I am attaching a .zip file... It's an altered AdminCP file... could you upload it (overwriting the old) and see if the announcements then appear? You are only overwriting the exsisting upload>forums>admicp>smnlikquick.php

I took out some if clauses (the code that hides that box unless there are active announcements) -- Just need to see if that part of the coding is the exact problem. I'm sorry about this and thank you for your patience!

Hello, I'm thinking of installing this mod in order to replace the "notice hack", but is it possible to show an announcement only to specific usergroups?

For example if I want to write "why won't you join us? register today" only for the guest usergroup, will it be possible?

At this time, no but I am working on usergroup permissions (that will work great for what you are wanting to do) I fell a little behind as I have been feeling under the weather. If you mark installed, I'll send out a message when the mod is updated with that feature.

There's not enough room for all the announcements... when it runs outta room, it starts a new line... I'll work on doing something about that... but if there's a no break and it runs out of room, will expand the table... this could create side scroll or other icky issues.

if so, that would be in the smnlikquick template.. the .init sets the time in micro seconds, just change it higher or lower to decrease or increase the intervals.

Did you upload ALL files? If so try to re-upload all files again making sure they upload either in binary or ASCII mode.

Also in admin panel if we could write announcements with WYSIWYG editor, it would be very nice. Some of my admins don't know how to prepare HTML codes.

Can i add another suggestion simalar to the above post, that it may be worth adding a weight system to this so you can place new tabs/announements where you want them. At the moment when you add a new tab it is added to the end of the list. Maybe a simple up and down button would be cool so you move your tabs around after adding them. Just a suggestion.

To Upgrade:

Reupload files allowing overwrite. (Excluding the smnlikquick_css.css file if you have altered it)
Import the Product XML
If you have the CMPS Module installed you will need to reupload those files also allowing overwrite.
You may then want to Order your Announcement via AdminCP

As I'm not having much luck with figuring out how to manage the css with just one file (depending on style being used)... A fix for multiple styles would be.....

Copy the smnlikquick_css.css file once for every style you have, naming them whatever you wish IE smnlikquick_style1.css, smnlikquick_style2.css, etc
When doing the template edits, change the file name to match the .css file for that style. For example (Look for the Red):

Great addition but I've come across one problem in admincp when trying to edit an announcement of more than one line. The option to edit / disable / delete becomes centred and when attempting to select an option, it opens the forumhome page !?

That could be due to a DIV height attribute being hard coded to a static value instead of a % Let me check out the core code that Bree released to see if the main content DIV has a hard coded value..

To fix this, Edit the smnlikquick template (The Bold Red Below) Removing the height attribute will make it adjust to the size of the text..

Very strange... Try upgrading to v2.0.3 and see if that fixes the problem.. otherwise you will probably need to start from scratch (Uninstall and Reinstall completely)... I've never seen this happen.

Upgrade is the same as before... reupload all files (with the exception of the .css file if you have altered it... then re-import the product. Evaluate you SmnLikQuick settings afterwards.

you can adjust the rotation by editing the smnlikquick template and setting the mytabs.init(5000) to something higher. The time is in milliseconds, so 5000=5 seconds .. if you want to slow it down to 10 seconds, make it 10000. If you want to totally STOP the rotation just remove the numbers ie mytabs.init() That will make it so that they manually have to select a tab..

The second template edit in the installation notes (in zip file) is the placement... you can put it wherever you want (assuming the files from edit one) are pulled on same page... (so put both edits in the header template) I have to look... personally I added the first edit to the headerinclude template... then I can pretty much put the second edit anywhere and everywhere =0)

Deactivating BB Code (in SmnLikQuick Settings) Activates HTML... At the moment you have to choose either or, sorry *blush*...

I am sorry about that, and when a new version of SmnLikDat is released, will automatically have that restriction taken out... When this was created it was for personal use on my own site so templates were created with my own wants/needs in mind and I forgot some things when coding to release. Funny, because that restriction didn't work out like I wanted it to on my own site so took out myself too LOL Anyways, I am babbling hehe... To fix for now.. in the template: smnlikquick

Nevermind, that wasn't hard to figure out... for some reason the code I used to count the announcements (and display them IF there were any) didn't work for you, so we had taken that out... Anyways... Here's the new admin file for SmnLikQuick v2.0.3 edited to fit your needs. Just upload this one overwriting the old one and it should work as it did before you upgraded.

Until I can figure this out... when I upgrade the mod, can you please notify me that you will need a new admin file... I'll keep a note on my computer to help remind me but just in case I forget, leave me a message here (or PM me) pretty please.

Some things to try until then... verify that forum>smnlikquick.php uploaded to your server ok. Make sure that none of the SmnLikQuick Plugins somehow got disabled.. Possibly uninstall and reinstall the Mod?

Just finished my 3rd complete reinstall & each time I followed your instructions to the letter.
The js & css includes are in the headinclude template because i'm using the home page addon. As for your questions ..

All plugins are working.
AdminCp info shows up & can be changed.
I can also add & delete items fine.

The content of the items just continues to show the loading over & over.
To this point I have only seen the ajax function move between the items once.
That seemed to be during a forced page refresh. Even when that did happen the content area still only displays "Loading"

I'm not sure what this issue is. . I've looked for any path that may be off & cannot find any issue. One thing I have noticed though is when I change the options in the admincp (enable, modcp, bbcode) it doesn't seem to make any difference. The block still shows & nothing about it changes at all after I change those options. In fact when it installs, it is not enabled by default & still shows if the block is created.

Look for the coding (that was added during the first edit.... Which is as follows:

If it is not present then you will need to add that coding to the correct template. If it IS there but is still showing the links... try taking out the / (forward slash) in the address..

Sorry, for the "boring" update but it was for security purposes. So it is very important that you re-upload all files (excluding the smnlikquick_css.css) to your server allowing overwrite. Hi myown, unfortunately with the way this mod works, it doesn't automatically match up. You will manually need to edit the forums/clientscript/smnlikquick_css.css file. Just remember that later when you upgrade, do not overwrite that file when upgrading (or else you'll have to re-edit it)... If you have multiple styles, I left some notes in post 99 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1484751&postcount=99)
for a way to work around that. And I didn't understand what you meant with second question *blush*, I am sorry. What do you mean RTL?


I think we're to the point I can take the "beta testing" off of this (I initially just wanted that on there until 3.7 went Gold).. But I'm looking to add a few new features in the near future. Once that's released, everyone has it installed and gives me the OK, thinking that would be the best time to take the "beta testing" sign down... I'll hopefully be working on this soon (not sure when, have two more projects on the table not to mention trying to keep up with my own non-coding related site hehe).. so if anyone has any ideas for features not named in the first post.. please do not hesitate to let me know your thoughts =0)

I have a quick question. For some reason, when the "loading" happens, the announcement box is made smaller. This in turn forces everthing below it to 'jump' upward until the next announcement is displayed then it jumps back down to the original position.


Do anyone have any suggestions in make the loading box the same as the "announcement" box so it doesn't like like it does?


This is a great mod by the way. I will most certainly use it . I just hope maybe someone could possibly help me out.

Its not recognizing that FONT for what ever reason. Maybe someone that deals with other languages can help you troubleshoot.

Hey Hugo.... you can set the container to a "fixed" height, but it you have more text than the height of the container, then its going to over flow below the the set height.

If you want to experiment with it, edit the "smnlikquick" template ..

This Div is what controls the container...

Despite what Bob thinks, this was a really simple fix and I had time to fix it today. Give this file a try and if it works for you I will send it off to Bree to give a general update.

Just overwrite the previous ./smnlikquick.php file.

In the FORUM HOME Template, make sure your PATHS (IN RED) are set correctly.. You can put the FULL URL to the file(s) and that might solve the problem. The reason its coming out as a bulleted list is that its not finding the CSS File.

Excellent mod :). I got it to work perfectly on my forums, but when I followed the installation instructions to have it show up on the vbadvanced CMS homepage, it came up but the announcements would not show... it just showed a continous Loading....

I reverted back to just having it on my forums homepage for the time being, but I'm curious if anyone else ran into this issue while trying to use it as a module on the vbaCMS frontpage and/or if anyone has a clue on how to resolve it?

It shouldn't be a cpnav_ file. You should upload the .xml that is in the root folder of the zip file.

To modify the auto rotation, edit the "smnlikquick" template and look for this code towards the bottom of it..

Change the mytabs.init(5000) to mytabs.init() the 5000 is in microseconds, so it was set to rotate every 5 seconds... setting it to () removes the rotation completely and makes it so that you have to click on a tab.

Support for that being an option in the ACP is planned, so that will be in the next major version most likely. But it is somewhere in the template. Maybe Bobster knows the exact spot.

Interesting! What I find is that when you first enter the home page it auto-rotates between the anouncements. If I click on one of the tabs then it stops auto-rotating and does not change unless you click a different tab. If I refresh the page, then it starts to auto-rotate between the anouncements again until I click on one of the tabs again. Weird!

That's not weird, its how auto rotation is supposed to be if initialized. Auto rotation stops as soon as you click on a tab. If you refresh, you are invoking the original state, which is to auto rotate until a tab is clicked on. I posted above how to initialize without auto rotation.

Once Bree gets back online, I am going to have her change the default install to NOT rotate and add the ability to set the auto rotate time in the ACP.

As said in previous post, you can change the height of the box so it stays the same size when loading another tab.

Ok running VB 3.72 and a friend brought this program to my attention.

Installed and when I go to add a message I get this SQL error message.

Ok running VB 3.72 and a friend brought this program to my attention.

Installed and when I go to add a message I get this SQL error message.

It cannot access your database from your supplied information. I wouldn't see why if your forums worked.

And double check the CSS path.

Hi bobster, I've looked through the link you gave me, quick questions...

Basically, would I have to install the whole thing for it to work or could I take the thread php file and upload it and have a tab point to it...so which code would i use to do that?. . or is there another way round it?

No, you wouldn't install the whole thing, just use the content files ie, recentthreadsexp2.php for example and point a tab to it. You would do this manually in the template (for now). King K and I are working on something right now that we may talk Bree into using here which will allow specific additional content modules to be added to this as well..

EDIT the smnlikquick TEMPLATE

I manually inserted an LI tag (IN RED) which will create an addition Tab .. all you need to do is create a content file, upload it, change the name of it in the line below, name your tab and yer golden. Works well with all the content files I have made for AJAX Tabs .. you just need to remark out the calls to any CMPS files that are not being used..

I had put the full path in there and that did not work out, but I removed the / slash and now I get the blocks and see the two messages.

But I don't understand the SQL errors that I have listed. Error Messgae The requested URL /forums/admincp/function.mysql-query was not found on this server.

Here is a screen capture of where the errors occur, is there anything else that you would need from me to sort out this problem?

No I don't get that error message for vBulletin at all. I checked my emails and there was SQL errors reported for VB.

But here is the ones from your software. I hope that this will be a clue for you.

Your table was never created. Try exporting and reimporting your product.
