The error is only there when you delete a member, so it is not something you encounter daily. So therefore I guess that not everybody has seen this error, but as several people have encountered it in the last week, it seems a bug that anyone will encounter sooner or later.

I will be the fourth!!! Anyone else want the number of invites to be set in the usergroup so we don't have to visit each individual profile to change it from 10 to more or less. It may be a great idea to also be able to set it to have no limit. I really don't want to limit my members promoting my site.

This function would be very good! I would very much appreciate it if the coder of this mod could update with this function as soon as possible!

I have set usergroup 1 (unregistered/guests) to be able to send invites, but if i log out and try it, i can't send any.

Figured out that if anyone is having issues with ReCaptcha, it's due to vbulletin 3.71 working under PHP 4. There is a patch available.

having said that, i've removed this hack. It causes the following error when deleting members...

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /mysite.co.uk/includes/class_dm_user.php(2243) : eval()'d code on line 14

If you remove the mod, deleting members works fine again.

But the link that gets added on the Navbar doesn't work. It's missing the "/forums/" part of the address.

1. Where can I fix the above?
2. Is there a way to prevent the Navbar edit altogether so I can just have it in the UserCP? My Navbar is already crowded and customized.

OK, I installed this invite mod and it installed very easy and thats cool, But I sent 2 test invites and none was sent.

Im having similar issues but its because Im switching hosts so the email address doesn't match the domain ip or something along those lines. I can't send to homail or yahoo... both block them. Gmail I can send to with no problems as well as other paid email addresses.

I did configure vbulletin to send out via SMTP temporarily using a Gmail account so Im able to send to yahoo and hotmail until I get things settled. I invited myself to gmail and created an email address called domain_name@gmail.com to at least have my host name in the email address.

Excellent add-on. Installed version 2.0.3 with no problems thus far.

A few minor suggestions to make this mod even better:

1. Use the standard forum sender name and address in outgoing emails (or provide an option to do so). It does not make sense to use the recipient's address in the From: header, and furthermore this causes many invitation emails to be misidentified as spam. Our forum is heavily optimized so that outgoing emails do not get flagged as spam (reverse DNS, SPF records, etc.) but this requires that the outgoing emails have the forum address in the From: header.


I'm getting this exact problem. My invitations say "successful" but invites to yahoo and hotmail users get blocked (doesn't even show up in spam folder) through this mod. I contacted my isp and added spf records, but still hasn't helped. What does reverse DNS do and how do I do it? Sending msg's through the forum to yahoo and homtail users get by fine because the email shows the header From: "Administrator @ MY FORUM" <admin@myhost.com>

My invite headers look like the invitees are getting mail from themselves.

P.S. in response to your post about hotmail blocking it, i sent it to several hotmail addresses and they all got it...I dont know what could be causing yours to do that. Other than hotmail and yahoo automatically block everything it seems, so your friends may need to click allow web content somewhere in their email options...Worth a try...Be well -

I can't send to yahoo or hotmail. Gmail seems ok. Paid emails go through without a hitch. Are you on a VPS hosting plan like me?

vbmail($invitation_email, $subject, $message, true, $vbulletin->options['webmasteremail'], '', $vbulletin->userinfo['username']);

It turns the senders email header to that of the webmaster (AdminCP-vBulletin Options-Site Name / URL / Contact Details-Webmaster's Email)

Previously the header included the recipients email which is the reason yahoo/hotmail was blocking.

I also added my webmaster's smtp settings in the email options, turned on SMPT and Enabled the '-f' Parameter in AdminCP-vBulletin Options-Email Options

Mail still goes to bulk hotmail... but at least it goes through. Yahoo goes to inbox from what I've heard from users.

I don't delete members so that's no biggie for me. However, this is somewhat of a critical bug as well:

If you have the forums be invite-only:

Going to a user who is in the waiting email confirmation usergroup, sending them the activation code again (It's an option obviously) will redirect you to register.php?do=requestemail&email=...

For those of you having difficulties sending invites to yahoo/hotmail, you may want to import this modified xml (make sure you overwrite). The only changes I made in the product-invitation.xml file was:

This:

To This:
vbmail($invitation_email, $subject, $message, true, $vbulletin->options['webmasteremail'], '', $vbulletin->userinfo['username']);

It turns the senders email header to that of the webmaster (AdminCP-vBulletin Options-Site Name / URL / Contact Details-Webmaster's Email)

Previously the header included the recipients email which is the reason yahoo/hotmail was blocking.

I also added my webmaster's smtp settings in the email options, turned on SMPT and Enabled the '-f' Parameter in AdminCP-vBulletin Options-Email Options

Very good, but I think this system invites could be similar to the system of version 3.6, where users could earn invitations by post and reputation.
Example: a user reaches 50 post and win a new invite, automatically.
Maybe you would change the xml him to work that way I mentioned above?
I'm sure that the system would do much more success, more in forums like mine that the user only enter by invite.
Another thing is the initial number of invites, I think very high 10 invitations for each user, that number could fall get 5 or less.

Yes overwrite the xml.

To get your link, invite someone using an email address then on the same page you will get a list of sent invites. On the left side of that table is the invite key

IF IN:
In admin CP-> Options -> Invitation System Options

Invitation Code Link
Display the invitation code as a link to the registration option in usercp? NO_ YES_

If set to YES, then right click the invite key and copy link location and paste it into aim, yahoo, or any other chat window.

If set to NO then copy http://YOURHOSTNAME.com/register.php?referrerid=X&invitation=

somewhere (***note you have to enter the hostname and where the X is, your profile number)

then copy the invite key after that without any spaces.

Exactly. This must change to at least optional - otherwise, it's an uninstall for me I'm afraid. An email invite from a site/URL that someone's never heard of is simply not going to get good conversions. Sorry. :(

Because most spam detectors these days look at e-mail message sources, which show originating IPs and machinenames; e-mail sent from the vBulletin system, whether from a user who knows another user's e-mail address, or from the system itself, will all contain the same originating trace markers.

This is turning out to be quite good.

A few suggestions:
1. a page which overviews who has sent invitations.
2. on the page which now overviews the invitations, you can see how many they have left to send and other things, and you can edit easily how many left they can send.
3. a setting to set how many invitations people can send per usergroup.
4. an option to reset how many invitations people can send.
5. an import buddy list from hotmail, gmail, etc. to send out emails to everyone on there buddy list.

To expand on Kaelon's reply: Email is easy to forge. DNS is not. Anyone can send an email with your address in the From header, so many modern spam detection systems place a greater importance on authenticating the originating server. In simple terms, mechanisms like SPF and Reverse DNS, when used with an appropriate From address, are used to tell spam detection systems that the server from which the message is being sent is genuine, and that the address in the From header really is the address of the sender.

Please download the plugin again and reinstall. It is version 2.0.3 and this issue was fixed on 1 August 2008. I have tested it. Plugin works properly now.

I have a question about this modification.

The people that I delete the are not deleted in the invitelist.

Actually I liked the idea of this hack, but every time I install it, my email system goes down (i.e., when I try to send email message for the whole of my users it sends only for the first 50 ones only.)

and 50 is estimation, because sometimes it sends for the first 100 but it never exeeds more than 100.

This mod is a great idea, but I'm still trying to figure out why there are still limited invites. Unless your forum is a secret, no one in their right mind running public forums would ever want to limit members' ability to invite more people. There should, at the very least, be an option to set the number of invites to infinite. I personally would hate for my members to run out of invitations and unable to utilize this feature because of its restrictions. Until this problem is addressed, I think good old manual invitations is the way to go.

I agree, it woudl be nice for the Admins to be able to see invitations sent out, and the stats on them, as well as set the number of invitations allowed on a per Usergroup basis; however I am not the author of this mod ;)

sure, run a query to change the invitation field in the user table. Also, you can chaneg this from a default of 100 to whatever you want, that should make new users start with the custom number...
