Basically when a post is made and a user is not logged in, the forum (status icons) don't change to say it contains a new post, any ideas?

Previously I have tried removing "forum is closed for posting" from the homepage by modifying the "FORUM HOME" template.

What have I done wrong?

Post if you need more detail please.

Problem solved, thanks :)

If the user isn't logged in (a guest), how could the board know that's a new post for him?

I see what you mean BUT i mean in general, how can you get it so that if a user has posted within 1 minute for example, how can you show it so that a "guest" user can know that it is a new post...???

I think there is usually a link under Quick Links for posts from the last day. I think that is all you can do. How can you tell that it's a new post for one guest versus an old post for another guest? You can't. The software doesn't know what you have or haven't seen as a guest. The best it can do is give you a list of all the new posts in the last day (which I said is a link under Quick Links I'm pretty sure).

Oh but on another forum, the forum icons change if there is a new post, its confusing me, as the status icons start to flash if a new post is posted recently (I seen the time aswell it said)

Is it a hack or something else?
You get told there are new posts when you are just a Guest? This sounds like some hack. I would ask them at the other site what hack they are using.

The natural behavior of vbulletin notifies guests if there are new posts since their last visit to the site, thats NOT a hack.

If the icon if flashing, then yes thats possibly a hack, but vbulletin still notifies guests if there is a new post since their last visit regardless, using the new post icon.

That site can simply be using a animated gif as its "new post icon".

Found it out :), it turns out to be with the "vbulletin options" It is not a hack and is just reading the options and clicking "no" to hide forum locked icons to users that can't post.

Thanks every1 :)

I guess I need to visit my site as a Guest more often to see what Guests see!

Someone will have to point that out to me as I don't remember seeing it.

So your saying as a guest on your forum, if you mark all read and refresh at a later time, you dont see and "new post" icons lit after someone makes a post on your site?

Thats called a notification as the new post icon is now active with a new post.

Ok, how does vb distinguish one guest from another then?

I never claimed it did.

Ok, now I'm confused. If it can't distinguish one guest from another then how does it know which guests has already seen which posts?

I wasn't actually referring to that Boofo, i only made the comment based on what i see posted as it does actually change the icons when there are new threads.

From what the user asked in his first post and what else was said, i only wanted to clarify that it does in fact do what i said it does.
