Trying to reproduce the Articles section like vb.org

I'm trying to reproduce the articles section like on this website however I can not seem to turn off the following columns for the section: "Forum", "Last Post", "Threads", and "Posts" counts. I've taken a screen shot of both to illustrate what I mean.

Ok what would be the best way to conditionally disable those subforum header columns?

If it's a category
disable header

Maybe?
