how to force new members to post in introductions

Is there a way that a new member must have to make a intro post before being allowed to post in main forum? Is this possible and how?

Yes, you can jump through hoops with Promotions, but this isn't going to force them to do anything.

I think it's a really bad idea, and if I went to a forum that tried to force me to post an intro, I'd either promptly leave or just post nonsense.

You could always have them complete a "bio" field or something in their profile on registration, then use the text from that field to populate a new thread when their registration is complete.

There are a couple of mods that accomplish this functionality in one way or another.
