Converting Visitors to Members

My site is new and I've been very pleased with the amount of traffic I'm receiving as a result of posting to other Forums, but I have been disappointed in the number of visitors which have become members.

What suggestions would you have to help convert these visitors to members? I am currently using Welcome Headers & Invites System. Any other suggestions???

Most important would be a good staff that will post among themselves to get conversations seeded.
