Navbar menu spacing

Any idea how to make the space between items on the horizontal menu in the navbar template, narrower? Having added mods that appear now it is crowded and can't allow such generous spaces between its words.
have cut words down as much as poss.
Have messed with various bits the template, stylevar, no effect.

have you thought about taking some of the less used or less desirable links and removing them from the bar but placing them in quick links?
