Hello,

I am looking for a new webhost, here are the stats for my forum.

Members : 11,000

Threads : 8,400

Average users online at all times : 50

So could anyone recomend a good webhost that offers a good service for the above stats?

I dont really want to go a dedicated server, unless there is a real cheap one out there.

Thanks.

I've had good luck with hostgator.

I hope I don't get in trouble for plugging them.

There's also DreamHost (http://www.dreamhost.com/), which is very good.

Ive talked to hostgator in live chat, they shut you down if over 25 users are on at a time for any shared hosting plan

I've had 54 at one time, everything was fine.

HostGator and DreamHost are big hosts that over sell big time, if you start using up too much resources they will shut your account off.

What is your budget and i'll try to help you :D

HostMonster has always been great for me. 1500GB, 15TB, PHP5/MySQL 5 (kindof odd setup at the moment though, phpMyAdmin shows Server version 5 client version 4 (of course with all the minor version stuff too)). I've only got 11 members at the moment, but am running hourly scripts that run around 10 large (95 rows per user modified every time with one of the scripts) and things are fine. Not sure of the comparison of 11000 users with 50 active, but will they be running queries like that every hour? The ONLY time they ever warned me on CPU usage was when I tried to install a photo album and processing script that tried to resize 100 hi-res images at once. Their support generally knows what they're talking about, they give you SSH access (provided you send them a scan of government issued ID), and they don't have silly limits on your SQL database size (they just limit you to 100 databases total).

If you're looking for a VPS, check VPSlink / Spry. Both are very good. VPSlink servers are very unmanaged, however, and you only get support for issues that are specifically server-related, which makes the price very nice.

I recently switched from HostGator to Cmodz-hosting, Hostgator gave me massive grief over send emails, from inactive user hack and the mass email feature. Check them out, i have no problems with them, they are excellent, i have about 4,000 members and average online is 120, and hourly scripts running, and no issues....

You can also consider a VPS on which you'll have dedicated environment and more resources to use than a shared hosting account.

We use *** Referrer link removed *** They are absolutely awesome... We've not had any down time in all the time we've used them... and we've used them for over a year now...

They DO NOT oversell!

Hi,

What exactly is a VPS?

A virtual private server or VPS (also known as a virtual dedicated server, a VDS, or virtual server) is a method of partitioning one physical server into multiple servers. Each one of these servers has the appearance and capabilities (with it's own allocated resourced) as it if were running it's own dedicated server. Each VPS can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted.

Thanks for that, I will take a look at EUK Host later :D
