I use cPanel, well becuase I started with it and now its been like a habit. I hear so many negative references to it, not only that but it costs me 30 bucks a month! I also like it because I can add domains and packages with ease. I'm a noob on the server side of things and how to manage those things effectively.
What are some of the other alternatives to using cPanel? I have to go dedicated, like last month and I'd rather spend that 30 bucks a month on some more ram or an extra processor, something really useful LOL
I really like cPanels WHM too. It just doesn't always seem so reliable as far as loading and I'm wondering if its half my problem. :erm:
Give me the good of it, if any, the bad of it and also, better program choices and why.

If you want a free panel, you can use webmin, more to learn on your part and is not noob friendly, but its free and very flexible as well.
If your having issues with cpanel, you should contact your host about it, they are the ones who are supposed to support it.
If you cd over to /scripts, there are a few things you can try yourself to correct any issues with it.

I use webmin because it's free and because with the $30 I save every month, I've been able to upgrade both of my servers to 4GB RAM :)
I don't do a whole lot to my servers through webmin - I do look at the logs and running processes at times, but when I moved to these servers, I hired someone to do the move and he set up all my other domains and such. I have been trying to learn how to 'see' things and 'do' things simply through ssh access.

Plesk is also a good option to go with a Dedicated Server.

or if you can afford to buy a Mac server, lol... hum, ok, not everybody can... but on my side, each big site like yours is having its own xServe in my rack... no need of a panel... OS-X is managing everything better, with a complete interface (like in your computer or so)... and is faster and easier to manage once you started to manage users accounts in your own computer, that's the exact same thing...
it all depend on what you have to do with your server... on my side, i have 9 or so clients with forums with more than 500k users, so i have to have a monster... i prefer that way instead of hosting on commercial places.. just need a T1 or better... one is sharing live feed and video chats, so we need something that will handle the content, not only the downloads...

I'll catch you on yahoo later ;)
I really need to ease into it.. I have a budget and I wanna rock it with what I got.. phasing out cPanel just sounds like the good webmaster thing to do...
And what about reselling and hosting other domains? I do that sooooo easy with WHM on my VDS.
