image for category bar/color thing

i think a screenshot will work better than trying to explain it. what i want to do is take an image and replace the bland color on a skin. like using a header file.

the top arrow is pointing to a nav bar that came with this skin. its not the actual navigation bar installed by VB. what i would like to do is find a way to use that image behind the top nav area on the stock nav area and category areas.

if possible could someone also include how to center and change the category text size etc. ?
