I don't see why vbulletin licenses aren't free. I mean, proboards is free. Why not vbulletin? I just don't get it. I can make a poor forum using proboards for free, or I could make a vbulletin forum for $160, that's actually good! I know life isn't fair, but why can't the internet be fair? Someone needs to balance these kinds of things! Why not a forum as good as vbulletin, but completely free like proboards? ....*sigh*, how do people deal with it? I moderate at a site powered by vbulletin(forum.cheatmasters.com), It's awsome, so I come here to try to make one myself, and I find out you need to purchase a license, and then pay $30 a year to keep that license! I'm not known for getting angry, but that's sorta outrageous.... No offense..... it's not that it's bad you guys are trying to make some money, I just think more things in life could be free, you know? Sorry guys, but I need to give you a negative smiley face...:(

Whinger.

Spend money and get quality, or go with a free solution. Noone is forcing you to pay for the software. You admit yourself that it is better than the alternative, and that is because it is a commercial product. You can't expect developers to work for free.

hmmmmm Why does anyone pay for anything then? Everything should just be free. :)

I wish it where true. Considering the flexibility of this product, you get a lot of bang for your buck! I think the pricing structure is very fair! Not much help am I? I'm also a HUGE supporter of payed modifications. Using a payed platform also stops your mods from thinking its easy and that they should have there own place and move out on you and taking half the place.

PHPBB is free too.. http://www.phpbb.com/ You will be much happier with them I think :) Good luck!

vBulletin is much easier to customize and easier to administrate. It also has a TON more features than free boards.

Bottom Line

You have to pay to get paid.

I agree with UncoderMom, Everything should be free. Then everyone will have everything. Then we could all become robots, and do the same thing as one another. It will be awesome.

Why is that proboards is free? Well, the reason why is so they can get massive hits and receive an income with google ads or yahoo ads they have. If I wanted to do what proboards is doing, I will. But the lack of boards (such as phpbb, ikon, and whatever proboards is using), I'll never use it.

Life is fair, the question is, are you willing to make life fair by buying a license that someone work hard for? I am proud to spend 160 for the license.

If you buy a license (160) you can run it forever and pass it on to someone else when you pass out. The 30 bucks, is when your 1 year upgrade is gone. For example, you bought yours on 1-1-07 and it's now 1-1-08 and vB release a new version the following day. You will not be able to download the new one, however, you can use the one you're using. And don't have to worry about that one unless you want to download it.

Hope this help

Best Regards,

James
