View Full Version : vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 3 Released
vB.Org System

vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 3
THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE.
IT IS UNSUPPORTED.
If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, DO NOT INSTALL THIS BETA VERSION
This release combines a roll-up of all the bug fixes made since the release of vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 2 with extended functionality for the social groups system.
If you are already running vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 2, you should upgrade immediately to Beta 3 so that you will not be running into any known bugs.
New Social Groups Functionality
vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 3 introduces more features for social groups, allowing them to be set up with different membership schemes; those being:
Joinable without owner confirmation
Joinable only with owner confirmation
Joinable only by invitation(Once again)
Significance of a Beta Release
This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.
Customers should bear in mind that this is a public beta, not a certified 'stable' release so the following caveats apply:
Beta software is unsupported and you install beta versions at your own risk.
Some minor bugs remain unresolved at this time, so beta software should not be on production sites.
You should always back up your database fully before attempting to install beta software.
If you choose to install this version, you should be aware that we plan to release new beta versions in rapid succession as bugs are fixed and holes are plugged. Do not install this beta version if you are not willing or able to keep up-to-date with new releases.
The ImpEx import system does not support the 3.7 code yet, and will not support it until the release of 3.7.0 (stable).

Beta 3 is finally here! Awesome, that means the Gold release shouldn't take too long now. :D

ya know, we can have 14 betas before a list of RC and then the Gold...
as new settings were added, it may be the best time to suggest some changes to what was added... before the RC... (RC means release candidate, where no more additions are made.)

I don't imagine many more releases will be made. It's pretty darn stable, and no ones had any major problems with it. I'm running it live for a very, very active community, and it's running like a charm - loving the performance boost!

Seems stable and fine here as well. No problems with data loss or errors, except a few minor options not selectable due to a clash with vB Credits. Heck, quite a few version 3.5 modifications seem to still work. But for anyone who really doesn't know what works, these do for a start:
PM Search
vB Shout
Photoplog (new version)
ibProArcade
Ishop
A few others as well I think...

I think we should wait until the gold part.

Personally I like to wait for the RC stage before upgrading my live forum. I tend to upgrade my test board to beta 3.7 and see how it's going and report any bugs.

thank you
wan release the final version
3.7 looks awesome, lots of cool features but I think I'm going to hold off from upgrading. Much thanks to the vB developers for their hard work.

Just wanna say, I've experienced no problems running this on my very large community, live. The update they posted a couple of days ago (beta 3), I installed in less than 5 mins and was a breeze. :)

Performance and functionality problems i can handle since i am a coder, but how about security bugs? Theres bound to be exploits, Is it really safe to upgrade to a beta in which exploits haven't been discovered or patched.
I have ran a test of it and it seems preatty stable, but my opinion is to wait until its gold. Or at the very least RC.

I tried to upgrade and it got stuck on one of the steps. I guess I'll have to stay with 3.6.8.

As it is beta software you are not advised to use it on a production board. There are however no known security issues at this time.

As far as I can tell, there are no major issues left, and very few minor bugs.

these features will surely be available thru hacks here on vb.org.. they are simple modifications, and i don't think it would be good to add them to the core system.. but as hacks... 3 or 4 versions will be available as soon as 3.7 is gold.. sure!

Seriously considering installing the beta on my forum (300+ people online at any given time lol) in a week or two when I move server. I really hope it comes out of beta soon though, or at least to RC status :/ Don't want any serious issues. Any issues at all really...
The new features are just delicious. Hopefully the Zoints tags will be able to be ported to the integrated tag system at some point :)

They still have a few bugs to work on, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm happy to wait until they feel they have made a stable version. However, I'd be most content if they released an "as-of-now" beta. I foolishly took the rapid progress from beat 1 to beta 3 as a semi comparable time reference, and promised my community we'd be updating within a few weeks. Now, they're all looking at me like "wtf."

lol, b3 has been out a while now without getting atleast a new beta, but thats the joys of software development and i'm sure it'll be well worth it :)

As the otehrs say never promise that is one big rule with BETA Software, you should never say to a member that it will be a few weeks for the next update, as they will likely get a whole batch of bugs fixed before the next release so then they wont have as much to do on the next one :)
Just sit tight after all we only just got xmas out the way

Oh, I learned my lesson well. No more promises! That said, I don't think we're too awfully far away from either a Beta 4, or RC1 now. Only 10 bugs awaiting feedback, and I believe it's back up to 5 unconfirmed bugs (was only 1 unconfirmed a few days ago).
The vB Team seems to be on the ball once more, and my hat's off to them. Do I wish it'd be ready sooner? Heck yes! Am I willing to wait for a stable package, free of bugs? You bet ya!
