No they are not.

The plugin won't be developed at least until vBulletin 3.7.0 reaches Gold.

I encountered a similar issue back in May with going from SMF to vBulletin. I was aware that people would lose their passwords and sent out a "board wide" e-mail to all of them just after the upgrade, with a direct link to where they could reset their passwords.

No problems at all, no loss of membership, etc, and it was well worth switching for all of the features in vB.

When I did this I had to manually reset passwords as the system refused to send passwords out. Successful and very easy to do but make sure you back up your database! It was probably back around last august tho....

If an importer does not support importing passwords, then this is because the source system encrypts/hashes the password and they can not be retrieved. This will not change in any future version.

PS As already noted, you can easily sent out password emails to your members after the conversion

You can send them out. But the chances of them all arriving are minimal. And once you start hitting Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail with a lot of these emails your messages will either get blackholed or end up in the Trash can of the email user. I know from experience handling many conversions that the numbers of ordinary users who bother to check their Trash/Spam folder is neither impressive either.

It is possible to make SMF passwords usable within vBulletin. Yes you can't convert them, but you can work around the hash/encryption. We've done it in our own closed source application.

So I can definitely understand why plenty of SMF users are wary of doing things the way the vBulletin team wants them to handle the conversion. :)

If you have just purchased a license, then please see the following on how to setup your account to show as licensed on vBulletin.org:

To be able to download modifications and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (http://members.vbulletin.com/membersupport_priority.php) (vB-Germany users click here (http://members.vbulletin-germany.com/membersupport_priority.php), vB-Chinese users click here (http://members.vbulletin-china.cn/membersupport_priority.php)) and enter your email address. You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive.

To protect our customers privacy you will also need to Opt-In to license validation for all Support Sites. You must authorise vBulletin.org in order to validate your license status here. You can do this at the page linked above for your distributor. Make sure to set the permission to allow vBulletin.org to validate your status.

The update of your account can take up to one hour.

Thank you.

iettafune: Passwords will have to be reset by your users. There is no way of importing passwords from SMF due to them being encrypted/hashed. Its easy for them to reset the password, just send a forum wide email out about resetting passwords.

There is a way. But the vBulletin developers wont do it. You work with the existing password hash from SMF, let the user login and then ask them to reset their password to one that will be stored using the vBulletin algorithm.

The above comment isn't true. Jerry has stated that they will be working on a plugin system for Impex that will import these passwords over.

What's the big deal with sending a mass mail to your forum members regarding the change of passwords?

Well I moved from SMF to VB. I had problems sending emails out , only 1/2 got send out apparently and others got spammed by us >.> [Not very good seeing as I paid so much :(]
number of visitors on my site declined by 1k unique visitors per day and even with a front page message I Constantly get damn people saying they can't log in >.<

Well life I guess, I would regret converting but I like VB ^^

I can not locate a vBulletin license for that domain.

Edit: it is not allowed to use vBulletin or any of our licensed products
(ie. ImpEx) without a valid license. Please either purchase a license or remove all vBulletin files from your server.

Yes it is possible to import from SMF.

Versions and such are things that could be addressed after purchase of a license. In Pre-Sales we can only respond if something is possible or not.

Hi everyone..

I am experiencing some problems while trying to import my SMF content to vBulletin
I installed ImpEx and set it up but once I press import an error message pops up saying:

"Connection to source server failed. Check username and password."

I am sure that all the info I entered in the config file are correct.

So please can someone help me resolve this problem because my site has been down for maintenance for a week now and I dont want it to take more then monday.

Thank you in advance.

Can you check that all the details entered into the impex config file are correct and match those of your SMF forum?

Pre-sales is not the place to gain support. ;) You can ask over at vB.com for Jerry to reply directly, or you can ask in one of the vBulletin forums here.

I did ask Jerry in vBulletin but it takes him 24 hrs to reply. I cant wait that long. My forum has been down for maintenance for a week now :(
