You already have the forum where members can request for paid services, why not have one where members can offer their paid services?
Also, where members can sell custom scripts and mods that they paid to have written.

Sorry, selling anything (services or products) is not currently allowed here. There has been discussion in the past about this, and the staff has taking into consideration the somewhat polar opinions on this.

the simpliest reasoning on this is google... search for "vBulletin Hacks" and you will have a pletore of sites.

oh great, thanks for clearing that up, I did not realize there were other forums and websites and that I could use a search engine, that is a great reason to not have that forum here.

There are a lot of reasons why we do not allow it at this time:
Possibility of liability issues
Spam (we are not going to become a dumping ground for coders to advertise their services while they don't contribute anything to the site: it is not fair to those who develop free modifications here)
Moderating that sort of forum will require a lot planning and work.So if we were ever to implement something like what you mentioned; the above would all have to be solved beforehand.

no more liabiilty than the current forum where members request paid services.
if you only allow vB owners to post I don't see how spam would be an issue, you simply disable their account if they spam, and you only allow verified vB owners to post in that forum, pretty simple really.
no more moderation than any other forum, in fact it would require very little IMO.

Believe if it were that simple and everyone thought that something like you mentioned was a good idea, something would have been implemented. ;)
1.) You misinterpreted my meaning of 'spam', take a look at what I wrote in parenthesis.
2.) It would require a large amount of moderation (either artificial or human) to consider point number 2 in my previous post.
Also, regarding liability, if someone reports that a service listed on our website scammed them but the service states otherwise, do they remain in the listing? how do we evaluate such reports in a justified manner? (Also that is a rhetorical question)

Your opinion is noted, however, the answer has already been given, this request will not be granted.

What if a paid product was put into this hypothetical forum - and was then later discovered to have serious security vulnerabilities which lead to the exploitation or destruction of several forums. vB.org (Jelsoft) could then be held liable for endorsing or advertising this product, or for even allowing it to have been on the forum at all.
At least with the Request for Paid Services forum, any blame rests solely on the individual who took up the request, not on Jelsoft or vB.org. With a forum like the one you're suggesting, blame would rest on BOTH Jelsoft/vB.org (for allowing the product to be published here) and whoever the product's developer was (for the existence of the exploit).

I fail to see this liability that you think would have, but we can all agree to disagree.

Maybe but unlikely.
- You're neither endorsing or advertising brand vB if paid services are offered here.
- Modifications that are verfied as unsafe are usually removed quickly by the staff. There is no reason to suggest that it will be different if the (hypothetical) forum is up.
- The game changes if either organization takes a cut from revenue gained of a product by percentage, tax, royalty, lease and so forth.
I am not saying that there are no issues with liability. If you want to find a reason, you will. However, it doesn't matter to me either way. I'm just responding to the above quote.

vBulletin.org is a site about sharing among vBulletin owners free advice. Advertising commercial products in any form is not what we want.
