View Full Version : vB 3.7 Beta 2 is Coming

vB.Org System
12-14-2007, 12:10 PM
I am happy to announce that (a little later than initially planned) we intend to release vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 2 into the Members' Area for download during UK business hours this coming Monday (December 17th).

These past couple of weeks of having the 3.7 code running on vBulletin.com so that customers can test features in ways we might not have considered and provide feedback have been invaluable. My thanks to all who have participated. vBulletin 3.7 is a better product as a result.

Please note that Monday's release will be a beta version and all the usual caveats apply. There will be no additional support documentation and anyone who upgrades their live forum to run on beta code will do so at their own risk. If you are not prepared to apply updates on a regular basis or are expecting the whole system to function flawlessly, you would likely be better served waiting for the final, 'gold' or 'stable' release of 3.7.0 when it comes.

As you can see in the project tracker (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?do=issuelist&projectid=6&issuetypeid=bug&appliesversionid=g13), the list of unaddressed bugs applicable to 3.7.0 is dwindling and hence the decision to do the release on Monday, but please do not stop reporting problems you find - the sooner a problem is identified and reported, the sooner it can be rectified.

Have a good weekend and we'll see you on Monday.

days are made of 24 hours, no matter where you are... if the guys there are releasing it at 23:59, you will have it at 18:59...

Is this a limited downloadversion or will it be the whole day available.

I mean, i work during the businesshours of UK, so i don't want to be late that the download is closed.

Is there any way for you guys to move your entire operation to the west coast of the US in the next few hours so I don't have to figure out what time I can actually download the new release? It'd be much easier for me.

Kier said Monday during business hours. So assuming that's like 9am-5pm, and calculating for the 5 hour difference in time from the UK to the East Coast -- I'd guestimate something like 5-7am EST maybe they'll put it up?

Maybe give 'em a few hours leeway to get awake and have Danny fetch them some coffee. :p

It's a bit after 4:30 am over there now. At least 4 1/2 more hours. The countdown begins. Why do I feel pathetic ? :)

Ha ha, don't feel bad - if I didn't have to go to work in the AM, I'd be staying up refreshing the Member's Area. :p

If they are rigid about UK business hours then that generally means 9 a.m GMT
Just over an hour more and it may be ready for download.
07.50 a.m. GMT at the time of this post.

How long does it normally take for beta release to turn into a stable release? I love these changes but I'll probably wait for the stable version. How long do you think I'll be waiting?

Too long?
Not long enough?

It is not possible to answer this question as it depends on the results of the Beta.

i hope you refresh your breath too...

do not refresh actually, you bring trafic on the site and everything is slowed down to hell...

just come to your members area in 10 hours, you'll be sure it is there...

and this will NOT be 3.7, but the beta #2 (or 3 like last time)... this NOT the OFFICIAL GOLD version... DO NOT install this on a production site... if you come complaint after that, nobody will help you because you did not read the docs.

If it's good enough for vbulletin.com, which is a production site, it should be fine for everyone else - right?

If it's good enough for vbulletin.com, which is a production site, it should be fine for everyone else - right?

you are in the wrong path really...

the guys at vb.com are the ones who code the engine, they know where the bugs can occur, and they can recover what they loose...

you, on the other side, are not a coder - or at least not the coder who coded the engine... you can encounter rare problems that you will not be able to fix, and even hit a bug that may crash your entire site... without any help to recover if you are not used to deal with such situations...

aside of that, if the Beta is an early stage of development, it is far from being the gold version that will be safe for your site... the beta of all the scripts are for testing features and helping coders to find flaws and redesigns... if you are no coder, you may be of no need to test it, because you would mainly report bugs that are not really there (most of the bug reports are closed because the reporter is not even aware of the way the error occured, they report them when they are already debugged, etc...)

it is not suggested to install a Beta or Alpha or even a Release Candidate when you are not used to code and debug... this is never fun to find your site crashed because of your un-knowledge... and even the coders can't always help you when the bugs occur because they are flaws on the system... most of the coders here will try the betas on test ground, sites that are not in production, just because they want to play with it... do you play with your scripts?!
