How come the .module file extension isn't one of the approved file extensions for uploads? In order to release a module, you have to zip it first.

All modifictions must be uploaded as a zip file.

I mean this in absolutely the nicest possible and most jovial way, but I think he may have been looking for more than his last sentence repeated back to him. :p
What's wrong with zipping the file first? It's usually a pretty helpful thing to do.

sorry, we will not support third-party file extensions
the best option is to zip the files for quicker download transfers

There's nothing wrong with it and I agree that it's often helpful. I just was curious and thought I'd ask. That and I don't see how zipping a file that's potentially rather small anyway is going to save *that* much bandwidth or download time. I guess it's better than having people complain to coders that their attachments are too large and asking them to zip them. Just zip everything and nobody complains.

Its easier for everyone to have uniformity in the releases.
You come to download a mod, you automatically know its going to be in .zip and not have to worry about downloading all sorts of seperate files. And its simplier to say, everyone use .zip even if you only have one file to upload anyway :)
