It all depends on what a BIG board is to you....
How many users in 15 minutes?

It also depends on the type of mods you add. and how big your database gets. Mysql loves ram :) the bigger it gets the more ram it loves (the more time its accessed)

The number of posts or members does not make a difference at all.
It is the number of concurrent users online and the average pagesize, and time it takes to execute queries that is most important.
I suggest you post at the Server configuration forum at vbulletin.com.

How many users do you have online at a time?1 GB of RAM would be good enough I guess but if you need more you can upgrade at that time.

How can you say that 1Gb RAM is enough, if you do not have any information yet to calculate this?
I really don't understand your replies.

I do not compute them well either.
I'd imagine with the information given so far, that 1GB of ram would probably load the site in a acceptable amount of time.

The simple answer is you won't know until it's been running a while and you see how much swap file gets used.
The general rule with RAM is - the more you can get, the better.

vBulletin.org runs together with several other Jelsoft sites on a few load balanced webservers. Not sure how much ram each server has.

I would also take into account the price difference, if were talking an extra 25-50$ a month for 4GB vs 2 GB then id go for the 4GB to save you any future problems. when you start using the swap file to much it really eats at your CPU so if you run low on ram and using the Swap Memory the CPU will start spiking pretty high giving you slow response on the server.
If the price is a big deal for you, then go with the 2 GB monitor the performance, you can always add it later with minimum downtime.
