I've been searching for a few hours in the mods and template enhancements, and I haven't found a definitive hack, so I thought I'd take this to a public conversation.
I'm interested in building an alternative (read: slimmed-down) version of my forumhome. Are there any modifications that anyone would recommend to help take me down that path?

Can you expand on "slimmed down"?
I have a Beta Tabbed Solution for Vertically Challenged Forums ie, forums with tons of Categories that make you scroll for ever and a day just to see whats available lol

Sure. By slimmed down, I mean essentially creating a custom forumhome that lists forum names and provides forum icons only, while displaying some bare-bones data. Users could toggle between the slimmed down version and the classical forumhome version.

This is precisely my situation, but I wanted to organize my forums in multiple columns, rather than one column per row... if that makes sense.

I thought I saw something similar to what you are after on here, but I never marked it as something that I was interested in. Maybe someone else will pipe in on it.
