I have been using this on my site for a while now and I love how I can sort the order in which the news is displayed. I felt it would be a cool thing to share with everyone, so here goes:
First, you'll need to have Joomblaworks "FrontPage Slideshow" (http://www.frontpageslideshow.net/) installed on your site. (this is NOT a free modification, and is needed to make this work)
Then you'll need to install this modification: vb_Cement (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=148940)
Now, open the "mod_fpslideshow.php" file for the Frontpage Slideshow. Search for "sticky" (only one instance in the entire file) and replace with "threadweight".
Old line of code:
$getnews = $db->query_read("SELECT threadid from ".TABLE_PREFIX."thread WHERE attach !='0' AND forumid in($forumid) ORDER by sticky DESC, threadid DESC LIMIT $limit");
New line of code:
$getnews = $db->query_read("SELECT threadid from ".TABLE_PREFIX."thread WHERE attach !='0' AND forumid in($forumid) ORDER by threadweight DESC, threadid DESC LIMIT $limit");
Now use the vb_Cement modification to arrange your sticky news items in the forum you are pulling the news from. Enjoy!

The Frontpage Slideshow (http://www.frontpageslideshow.net/) mod IS the mod that would add the module for vbadvanced. It is not free though.
This modification is just an enhancement to the Slideshow modification for people who use/own it.

You could also look at this one (http://www.vbcover.com/forums/demos.php?do=slideshow) with more options and no queries

It's just a matter of changing the ORDER BY. In fact, I am going to add that option in admincp where you will define the order by

Very nice modification - It looks AWESOME on GridironFans!
Question - do you need to download the Frontpage Slideshow for vBulletin specifically or does it make any difference?
Thanx for the sharing.

As far as I know you'd need the vbulletin version for this to work with the way I have this lined out. I couldn't tell you of another way to do this.

Wow! I didn't know that - I'd certainly be willing to "collaborate" if there are others. I've wanted this modification for quite some time now.

Anyway to make them show up randomly. I have it where it is like a banner ad displaying the "Hot Topics" and it would be nice if it would appear in a random order. Here's an example of how I have it set up. OrlandoUnited.com/Forums

I purchased and installed FrontPage SlideShow pursuant to the vBulletin instructions. Installation went fine. However, I soon en encountered a small attachment issue when some registered users tried to add an attachment using the paper clip on the WYSIWYG tool bar. Some users were able to post attachments but others received the following message: "Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" I did confirm that the users had appropriate attachment posting permission.
To fix the problem, I contacted vBulletin for assistance. They advised that I uninstall all attachments and revert all temples. I have a tech perform vBulletin's recommendation except for FrontPage SlideShow as I thought it could not be the issue. However, the same issue continued until FrontPage SlideShow was uninstalled. Since everything has reinstalled without an issues.
I wanted to know if there is a fix for this??? I have properly set FrontPage SlideShow to post attachments from one forum (id11).
I am using Version 1.6 (vBulletin Version) on vBulletin 3.7.1
