Description
This mod integrates the JW MediaPlayer (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player) into a users post. I initially made it because I wanted someone to make something that my users can start playing their mp3s into the post automatically (Music forum where people post their own mixed/made legal music).
Install
Step 1. Download the free JW MediaPlayer (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player) From http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player (Licence fee if for profit - NOTE this is NOT my player I did not make it, I was recommended it by someone else!).
Step 2. Unzip and upload content to root (http://www.mywebsite.com/) then rename main folder to "mediaplayer"
Step 3. Install Product from Product Manager
Step 4. Uploaded attached image to image to /forums/images/editor/
Troubleshooting:
It just loads a blank loading SWF screen goto Custom BB Codes and just click save without changing anything. If still does not work you can find /mediaplayer/mediaplayer.swf
and add your domain infront of it Ex http://www.mysite.com/mediaplayer/mediaplayer.swf. If this does not work then no idea it may be the upload itself - try it again if not post here so we can figure it out :D
It shows the default vBulletin Image. Goto Custom BB Codes Find /images/misc/vbulletin3_logo_white.gif
and replace that with your direct link to your sites logo.
Note
This is my FIRST ever vB "Hack" it isn't really anything other than it auto installs it for you... If I can I'll work on an auto convert option...
I'd also like to thank all the vB Hackers here as I was learning how to do this by reading all your .xml sources!
Demo of what it looks like: http://www.vibeunderground.com/forums/houseunderground-fm-hufm-podcast/28-houseunderground-fm-hufm-november-10-2007-a.html
Please note you should read NeutralizeR's article on vB.org about by passing the click to activate for flash. To do so read it here: (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122289&highlight=click+flash)https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122289&highlight=click+flash

Notes about this player (JW3):
It is actually a full functional media player, it can be used to play an rss feed in text (auto translate to audio), an rss podcast (randomly) you can also generate the code from the JW site to customize your player, either for the embed or if you want under your header a full play list like i do on vibeunderground.com. This player can also play video as well.
Currently the file needs to be uploaded somewhere in order for this to work, as this is being my first "hack" I am still learning, I would love to turn it into something that you could upload and it auto embeds it for you. An alternative is you could get the users to upload the file via the attachments manager, then they can just copy the link to the attachments manager to play it.
Keep in mind that when you install The player, the main files after unzip must be in your /mediaplayer/ directory. If it comes out with a folder called jw3_media_player and in it is all the files, than just rename the media_player folder to just mediaplayer and upload that to your root.
What I'd love to do, but don't know enough about flash, is create a dj mixer where users can type in links to an mp3 and they can que, scratch and mix mp3s together.
If anybody more advanced than me would like to further this project, go right ahead just give credit to this thread/mod and inform me.
Example of what you can do with the podcast feature, setting it up. I may redo the mod to add it so you can have a podcast tag and an mp3 tag.

Tigur

I havn't tried it with 3.6.4 - You can try it if you'd like if it doesn't work vB should tell you when you try to install it.

Does this allow anyone to do this? For example I have a member who hosts the FLV videos on his server. Then he needs to creat a post on my site talking about the video and then pasting it into a thread.

Yes. It must be hosted on a server. Though it currently is setup as an "mp3" player. You'd have to adjust the size. Actually if you can provide me a link to an flv file I'll see about adding it so you won't have too - though I won't be able to work on that till friday. Technically though you could just goto the custom bb manager and cut/paste the code from http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player that it gives you.

This is a fantastic first mod - thanks!
On the Quickeditor toolbar, how can I use an icon in place of the "Wrap MP3 tags around selected text"?

Wow, I simply amaze myself sometimes at what I moron I am! I see the editor button now, thanks. Closer reading will no doubt be helpful in the future. :D

Awesome, bro. Exactly what I've been looking for!
I'll install it in a bit.
btw, I got the same type of board:

Okay, got it installed.
Few questions:
1. Not sure how it works. When I create a new thread, I can see the Wrap [MP3] tags around selected text. What am I supposed to add withing those tags? I uploaded an mp3 to my server and provided a link to that, then wrapped it in those tags. All I got was a blank white box.
2. I read and re-read everything, and still can't find the Icon info that davekeats mentioned. I see the Wrap [MP3] tags around selected text on the New Post box. How can I make it an icon? I'll slap my forehead later.
I'm new. Sorry.

Hi Sorry, havn't been on lately, pretty much if you take an mp3 say
http://www.mywebsite.com/cool.mp3 then wrap the mp3 tags around it, it will play with JW Media Player, you have to download and install that onto your site first in the root directory as /mp3player/ though it'll play more than just MP3s. You may have to install the deactivate click to activate flash player, there is an article in the vB.org article section on how to do that for your entire site.

is it possible for users to upload thier music with this hack?
TheBlackPoet
12-13-2007, 02:19 AM
when you click the button in your editor... you have to insert the full url to the mp3.....
minus the quotes
Booyakan
12-13-2007, 02:27 AM
but how would the user upload the music to my site? sorry, dont get it...
TheBlackPoet
12-13-2007, 02:29 AM
the music is linked... not uploaded... YOU if you have ftp access can upload music.. but you wouldnt want a lot of tracks being uploaded to your site anyway huh??... bandwidth killer...
so people can link to other tracks that already online... and play them through that way... taking someone else's bandwidth

I have done everything, but I'm not getting an MP3 to play (via wrapping it in the tags). Instead, I only hear the MP3 file that's in the BB Code manager.

Here's what my BB Code says.

Sorry for being a knucklehead, but I really want this hack to work. It's exactly what I'm looking for, but I can't get it to work.
I need a little clarity. I'm still very new to the vB software.
The instructions above say:
Install
Step 2. Unzip and upload content to root (http://www.mywebsite.com/) then rename main folder to "mediaplayer"
I unzipped the download and installed the entire unzipped jw_media_player folder into my root.
Should I have installed THE CONTENTS of the jw_media_player folder into the root? Maybe? :o
Can someone who has a working install try this url to make sure the problem isn't the mp3? It's one of my songs, so there's no copywrite issues, if that's even a factor:
http://www.audioandanarchy.com/mp3/CatchMyRecovery.mp3
TheBlackPoet
12-13-2007, 03:10 AM
take that and put the whole url in there...
<center><embed src="http://yoursite.com/forums/mediaplayer/mediaplayer.swf"
change that
Should I have installed THE CONTENTS of the jw_media_player folder into the root? Maybe?
upload the whole folder as it is... keep the folder intact.... just give it the name.. the coder said to give it..... mediaplayer
dont forget to go to your admincp.... and install the product

You may have to install the deactivate click to activate flash player, there is an article in the vB.org article section on how to do that for your entire site.
Did a search for Deactivate click and Flash Player. Found nothing relative.
upload the whole folder as it is... keep the folder intact.... just give it the name.. the coder said to give it..... mediaplayer
Did that.
dont forget to go to your admincp.... and install the product
Did that, too.
I appreciate both of your persistence with my assistance! :D :o

Not sure what you mean.
Here's (http://www.audioandanarchy.com/showthread.php?t=2200) an example of the player on my board. The mp3 is embedded in a player that must be started and stopped by the users.

This should work in 3.7 btw. Someone else created something similar to it. However the difference is this one you can stream podcasts (and even video podcasts!) automatically without having to manually add/update. (I hope someone with more time can take over this project full time to make it with the features i'd love to add, such as autoplay youtube rss feeds, upload/play your own music on your own server.)

After upgrading vBulletin recently, this mod no longer works due to the URL bbcode being automatically being parsed within the MP3 bbcode tags. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
