View Full Version : Spam Registrations Question

I am perplexed and do not know what to do.

My site is continually being bombarded by spam registrations.

I run a clean and family friendly site www.comicbrew.com and have had to remove... sometimes hours after it's posted, inappropriate posts.

How can I prevent this?

Sometimes a spam registered account posts to a thread. Inappropriately and annoyingly.
I would rather drop my registered user numbers down to prevent this hassle.

I have to clean up the users database daily.

multiple registrations come from @mail.ru

if there was a way to restrict anyone from @mail.ru it would be a godsend. I just do not know how to do this. And without turning off potential, real live, interested members.

They all have similar IP's but never the same.

87.99.79.94
87.99.79.93
87.99.79.92
87.99.79.91
ETC

Some with the @mail.ru have random IP's
Similar emails, but never the same.
It's driving me nuts.

ANY help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

vBulletin Options > User Banning Options

You can ban the IPs and @com.ru email addresses in there.

Dont bother with email and IP banning they will always get around that

there are quite a few modifications available in the mods section to combat spambots, I use this one and dont get any spam whatsoever

Thanks, that's a great hack!

all my spammers were from one time zone:up::up:.

I'm not keen on the other idea of stopping users from posting based on their timezone, just seems a bit heavy handed for the majority of users.

I've been looking at this mod which may be of use to you entitled Prevent Spam Posts (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=131568&highlight=prevent+spam+posts)

I'm going to ask the question as to whether it can be used with 3.6.8 before I install it.
