how?

Why would you want to do that?

Represent vBulletin and all the hard work that has made such software possible@!!!

No why. If people want to customize their vBulletin and it's approved by vBulletin - there won't be any why...

Removing it completely is illegal unless you buy the debranding option.

You can find the "powered_by" phrase (I think it's that) in the Phrase manager. I've changed mine to read something like:

Powered by vBulletin v3.6.8 and a nuclear reactor.
Copyright ?2000 - 2007, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

No rules being broken as far as I know.

This is the least you need to have in your footer:

vBulletin, Copyright ?2000 - 2007, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

With 2007 being replaced by the year with the latest vBulletin release.

You can change it in your title bar, but not in the footer ;)

The minimum in the footer is (without branding free):

Powered by vBulletin
Copyright © 2000-2007 Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.

Powered by vBulletin

Just to verify, removing the text in the title is allowed?

Only the copyright in the footer (and inside the source files) need to stay intact if you have not purchased the Branding Free option.

You have been outnumbered. :D
Although, I am wondering - who is correct, Marco van Herwaarden or Colin F?

No. Marco's copyright notice still has the "Powered by" in it while in Colin's it's gone.

Ok, I was just wondering because both say they quote the shortest possible notice.

You are allowed to remove the version without the branding fee, but that is all.
