Keep the logo simple, With regards to food orientated logos I usually find that generally, designers overcrowd the banners with food and create a complete mess when less (in this case) is better.

Here's an example. Examples (http://www.gyleshopping.co.uk/imageresources/logos/food_court_logos_2.gif)

Logos/examples from the link above have one thing in common, you know what logo belongs to what company. The designers have kept it simple and people remember that logo and I would suggest you do the same. Give the members/guests something to remember your forum by implementing a logo that will complement your forum.

It would depend on the restaurant, but I'd go with a simple, yet very strong logo, with a out-of-focus background of people at tables eating, or food, or raw ingredients (green onions, tomatoes, olive oil jar), or maybe the breadboard with freshly baked bread being sliced etc. It would really depend. But I would go with a nice, solid logo on top of a partially opaque, out of focus background.
