Video Gallery - Share Videos! (From Any Website)

NOTE: I will take this hack out of it's BETA stage soon! Please report any features you would like to see, or any bugs that you encounter!

This hack will add a video gallery to your forums accessible at the location: www.yourforumurl.com/forums/videogallery.php

To add a video users must specify a unique videoID code and select a "Video Type" from the list of available options. This hack comes included with "Video Types" for Google Video and YouTube. A "Video Type" consists basically of just the Embedding code for that video sharing site with each instance of the Unique Video ID replaced with the text: $code. When the video is displayed the text $code is replaced with the UniqueID specified by the user who added the video.

You can add new video types to accommodate almost any video sharing website. There are detailed instructions written within the hack to help you through this process.

Pagination has been made more robust.
Templates have been tweaked for visual appeal.
Comment Writer and Admins can now delete comments.

1) A means to move videos from one category to another.
2) Video Rating System
3) Category Video Listing will display recently added videos + highest rated videos.

Actually, you can fix that error by redownloading the package, uninstalling the old product, and reinstalling the new product.

The new install/uninstall code has the table prefix constant added. (There is no need to manually edit the product xml)

I will consider other additions in the future, but AME integration and the features posted by edenx are not really what I would consider core functionality. Once I release a non-beta version, however, I will most definitely consider adding some more complex and "nichey" features.

Their embed code for video with videoID Mzg5NjYx is pasted below, so you would replace every instance of Mzg5NjYx in the embed code with $code and then past that into the Video Type Code field on the Add Type Page of the hack.

When i go to move a video from one cat to another i cant because there are no cats in the drop down box.

Instead of having just a text link to a catagory it would be great to ba able to add an icon or small picture as well
Have the rating "out of 10" instead of just "out of 5" As this mod will be big there could be a lot of videos to rate so a bigger rating scale would be great.

Abilty to have small icon like a star for rating instead of just a number would be nice

I believe the following options should be included, if the author has the time to do it of course :)

0. Correct the problem with the video count for each category - it now displays wrong numbers - check www.aekplanet.com/videogallery.php
1. Ability to edit video (the title and description)
2. Link to the user's profile for each video (the username already exists next to each uploaded video, but it is without link)
3. Number of views & comments for each video.
4. A module or code to show latest videos (even if it only means their title, without thumbnail) in VBA!!!! :)
5. Sub-categories.

If you read the topic you'll see that this is a problem that happens with the hack. We're waiting for the author to release the final version, hoping that it will be corrected then.

When trying to add a video with another account it says no permissions. Yes I have checked the permissions.

Make sure that the usergroup that you have is allowed to do everything except admin functions, and ensure that they are not included in the banned usergroup list.

As other people are not having this same problem, this must have something to do with a unique quality of your site.

hi, i had the issue with certain usergroups being unable to add. I made a usergroup called Video Mods and gave them full mod access and corrected the videogallery admin options to let them add videos but they couldn't the best way to resolve this that i found is go into the user you want to be able to have add the videos and make their primary group the group that can add videos for example, i had 1 registered user that i wanted to give special permissions to add videos (so i made video mod usergroup) if i left that user's primary usergroup as registered and added them to the video mod group they were unable to add videos. i had to change their primary usergroup to video mod and put their secondary usergroup as registered. hope that helps a bit.

now, i'm also unable to move categories, just comes up blank. i'm also having another issue, my videos that i'm uploading aren't loading in the correct order. is there a way to change the order that videos are displayed in inside a category?

Indeed it only works with primary usergroups. The permission system is very very simplistic in this mod, really it was only meant to ban the banned usergroup, allow video adding access to registered users, and give admin powers to administrators and moderators.

The videos should be listed in two lists. One is listed from most recently added to least recently added, and the other is ordered from highest rated to lowest rated.

There is no way to change the order of the videos manually.

I couldn't find any fix for the video counts. We're just waiting for the author to come up with the final version, hopefully it will be fixed there. For now, I just removed entirely the "video count" column :P

Fungsten, if you have say for example to users whom u want to be able to add videos and u have a group called "video mod" you have to make sure that usergroup is the MAIN group, (secondary can be registered or whatever) before you will be able to have that group upload videos. despite all the settings to allow certain groups to upload this only works if they are the primary usergroup.

Instead of having just a text link to a catagory it would be great to ba able to add an icon or small picture as well
Have the rating "out of 10" instead of just "out of 5" As this mod will be big there could be a lot of videos to rate so a bigger rating scale would be great.

Abilty to have small icon like a star for rating instead of just a number would be nice

Fungsten, if you have say for example to users whom u want to be able to add videos and u have a group called "video mod" you have to make sure that usergroup is the MAIN group, (secondary can be registered or whatever) before you will be able to have that group upload videos. despite all the settings to allow certain groups to upload this only works if they are the primary usergroup.

Here is something I noticed. I uploaded two videos. Deleted one and how the videos in that category say -1.

I think this add-on needs controls setup in admincp instead of the actual page. Also should add control to turn on and off certain member groups and can edit the video. This way if someone uploads a video but they cannot seem to get it to work, I, as the admin, can edit it for them to get it to change. Same with the description and title.

ONe thing though, i cant add/edit catagories from any other account besides my admin account.
I got 2 other accounts IN the administrator usergroup, but they cant add/edit catagories. only the primary administrator can.

Really impressed with this add on, marking as installed after this post.

I have no errors in video count, the only thing that doesn't work is you can't move the videos to other categories, but that's not even important to me. I'd rather it be removed if that was the case, but again, I don't care.

The real issue here is that this add on has endless possibilities of what can be done with it, if the embedding set up could be changed. I mean, so many websites out there are allowing embedding of there content. Even msnbc is allowing it now, I think only for single videos, rather than an actual stream, but that's still new.

The thing is though is that we have to enter in the paramters for embedding for each one, and then find the various codes of the video which are a small snippet of the actual url.

Like I said, it's a great mod, one of the best I've seen for it's potential and so I'm not putting the author down, I'm just wondering why the uploading couldn't be simplified. Not uploading, but embedding.

Why couldn't I make a new "type" and leave it blank and then enter in an html code for an embedded video such as:

I can hear someone saying that there could be security issues and my response is, NOT if they can't upload videos. I'm saying if I took this add on and allowed only Mods and Admins to upload, but anyone can watch or view, HTML would then be confined to the embedded area and yet HTML does not work in the comments so people couldn't post there own in the comments section. That I did already try with a super admin account, and it does not work even if it's turned on for the usergroup.

So basically I could embed anything in there if I could enter in a basic or blank "type" and then put in the code for the embedding of the video. Things such as the audio prank calls at ebaumsworld or audio files such as at dizzler.com.

Movies from youku or megavideo.

So to end this commentary, does anyone have any ideas as to how to make a blank or basic "type" so that all html would work if we entered that into the code box?

ok we actually got the video count error.

Since the author of the mod doesn't seem to want or have time to fix it, we'll look into it. It's just a code error most likely in calculation of the counts. If we find a fix, we'll post it up for everyone. It should have been done a long time ago though, it cannot be that hard to fix a calculation coding error.

Still a good add on though, definitely recommend to people.

This is gonna be my final post on this subject I'm thinking as there has been no response or support.

Like I said in my first post this add on has huge potential there a ton of things you can do with it. I mean you basically could embed anything through this system and HTML doesn't work in the comments so it's not like it's a big security issue. But like I said, ANYTHING, movies, games, and any video you can find out there. Everything has an embed formula or most sources do so the options are huge.

The negatives are quite a list though at this point:

* You cannot Move Videos/Embedded Items

* Video Count is Incorrect and Not Reading From Categories that the videos are in

* Delete Category does not work

* No usergroup permission specifics for who can do what, it's either Admin Access or they can only post videos in existing categories, meaning not so good functionality if you want to do user galleries for people wanting there own file of good videos

I really think this is one of the best "possible" mods I've seen as far as if these options were fixed or recoded, it would be a near standard thing on forums. I haven't heard one person say they didn't like it and when people were given initial access they immediately started posting up videos.

I don't think I would recommend it at this point, due to the list of problems it has, but if this is redone for a 3.7 release I'd be inline to install it for sure.

With all of the things that need to be fixed it does ask the question why can't we just use the HTML lockout add on and then just put our own videos in a forum? Of course we can is the answer and at the end of the day if you really compare the options with other add ons like Any Media Player or anything embedded, you don't even need to use HTML. You can just tell people to make there own thread and let them post as many videos for themselves in there that they want. You can rate each others threads of course, but you probably wouldn't want commenting. At the end of the day this can be done within a simple forum and it could look just as nice, and allow a lot more user friendly experience, with no errors.

Just some things to think about. I hope my criticism is constructive and has not fallen on deaf ears, and if you never do anything else to this add on, that's ok to. It still is pretty cool though and has a lot of potential should things be cleaned up in it.
