View Full Version : Coder and Designer Appreciation Thread

So, here goes. After reading the latest thread here in the Community Lounge I realized just how much a thread like this is needed to at least give somewhat back to the coders and designers who support vbulletin.org. This site is owned by Jelsoft. In the end however this site would be NOTHING without the coders and designers who release their modifications for users. I personally do not know how to code, and I am not ashamed to admit that I am too lazy/busy to take the time and learn how to code. However, I have a strong appreciation for the coders who take their precious time to release modifications for this platform we all love so dearly. So, this thread is here for one main reason.

1. If you have installed any hacks here on vBulletin.org just take a quick second to say thanks to the coders/designers who have released that hack for you. You do not even have to say each coders individual name if you do not like..as I know for one I have installed TONS of peoples modifications. However, just say thanks and in the end it will definitely help the morale of this site..I would like to think at least.

Once again, thanks a lot coders/designers and I hope you know that without you guys this site would be missing quite a lot. In more ways than one :D.

Thanks,
~BigCurt

P.S. Thanks for the sticky vBulletin.org - hopefully this thread can last for quite some time :).

not only a thanks to the codders but a shout out to vbulletin. vb.org and the contributers here are the reason i use vb. w/o them it has nothing over the competion. product and plugins is a nice feature but useless w/o the coders here to make somthing to use that feature. vb is what it is because of the codders imo.

Brings a tear to my eyes...

* Kirk Y grabs a tissue :cool:

It brings a tear to my eyes for all the wrong reasons. If you think for one second that all it takes is a appreciation thread to be created and stickied to make coders feel better about themselves your very much mistaken.

It will take alot more than a sticky piece of writing to keep valued contributors of the community here. It's very worrying that a certain thread which was created enduced this thread to be created and made stickied. It's a desperation thread to keep coders here that may not or are unable to remain for the long haul. They'll leave regardless of any incentive or silly stickied threads.

A desperation thread?

You are making way to big a deal over something you yourself call a 'silly stickied thread.' This is just to promote a fun community atmosphere, and it isn't doing any harm (as opposed to downright negative posts with no constructive value).

We are not forcing anyone to stay here. If you have any constructive suggestions, they are always welcome in the suggestion forum. :)

It is better than what coders are getting right now; nothing. There are people everywhere who do tons of things for different communities around the world and all they want are a simple thank you. Of course, some people don't which is why I also offered to edit the thread to have coders paypal's etc..as you never know what could help. Either way though, your opinions are your opinions even though they seem extremely pessimistic. It is comments like that which make communities fail. As my mother and mothers' around the world said, "If you can't say anything nice, then just keep your mouth shut."

Thanks for the sticky by the way

In the end however this site would be NOTHING without the coders who release their modifications for users.

And Designers. ;) The guys and gals that actually make the code function beyond this....{ insert_a_variable_here }...who play second fiddle with a coder heavy community (especially when their dedicated site was merged into this one).

Agreed

Also, after further consideration and a chat with Marco we decided it was best to take the paypal option down. Coders may always add a donation link in their release(s). The main purpose of this thread is just to show appreciation to the designer and coders who support this site. Hopefully, that thread at least HELPS in that goal.

I'm fairly new to vB and from a newbie's perspective; all who contribute their time, effort, energy and product(s) to help the members of this forum should be given a great deal of applause.

So, thank you all for your help.

I find 'Thank yous' go a long way. Most people I've come across will say it. Not because they are obligated to but genuinely want to. Many are appreciative at the fact that a member has taken the time to reply to their question(s), even if the problem(s) could not be resolved. I know I am.

The title doesn't mean as much as the person behind the username. For me, any member who has given deserves a 'Thank you'. We so often try to find the faults of any community it's encouraging to see members promoting the opposite. :)

I honestly have been trying to message a lot of people. Mainly the modifications I use the most - for example the Trader Ratings hack. I saw you help support it a lot and I sure do appreciate that even though I haven't had any problems it is great to know that if I do someone will be there to answer it while Jason is busy with his own forum.

Ladies and gentlemen, I just have to do a little bragging.

My site broke the 700 member mark visiting every 24 hours on July 28th.

The most members online over 24 hours was 709, Yesterday at 11:03 PM.

My forum has PaulMs modification "visitors every 24 hours" installed. That is how I know this. Thank you Paul.

My personal belief - the strength and flexibility of VBulletin and the modifications provided by this community is what has allowed my community to grow like it has.

I just want to say "Thank You" to the coders that helped make my site the best it can be.

Give credit where credit is due. These are the people that have helped with their contributions to my community.

Dannyloski - AME XML releases (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=157109)

And a special Thank You to The Geek.
The Geek - AME - Automatic Media Embedding (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=150863) This was one of the first modifications installed on my site. This one modification has allowed my site to grow beyond what I had ever expected.

And why do I add a special "Thank You" for The Geek? When I opened my site I wanted to do something different to promote it. So I opened a youtube account (http://www.youtube.com/user/survivalistboards) and started making videos. The videos were then embedded into my site using the AME modification.

In the description of some of the videos on youtube, I would put a link to the thread where the video was embedded. This provided people at youtube with a couple of direct links to my site. A link to the site index was always posted at the top of the video description. Currently my youtube account has 2,821 subscribers, the videos have received over 1,544,245 views - with an average viewing of 4,000 - 6,000+ views a day.

Some of my members followed my example and started making their own videos. Which were then posted on my forum. Some of the members have made the forum into a video blogging community. We had so many videos being posted, I created several "Member made videos" sections.

If I forgot a coder in the above list - you have my apologies.

To everyone that has helped my site get 1.5+ million page views a month, and 700+ members visiting every 24 hours, I just want to say

THANK YOU!!!!!

I never saw this thread. But thank you all as well and you're welcome. And I haven't seen this because my military life has kept me away from the internet a majority of the time for those of you who are wondering why this thread is 2 years old and I haven't seen it :D

Well, there is too many great members here to thank them all individually but coders and designers aside, what about all the moderators and the people that sit their patiently helping anyone that comes along.

Special thanks to Lynne for the active support and Shelly_c for being the greatest at everything image related. (Looking forward to some new smiles ;) )

I would have to say that Lynne is an asset to vbulletin.org.
She has educated members here time & time again on "how to", without doing it for them.
I thank you Lynne for your vast knowledge in vbulletin & yes, I truly believe you are a search engine, because there has not been a question that you have not answered, that I have viewed, incorrectly.

Thank you for everything you do for the members of this site.

Would like to thank the coders who have been here for quite some time, and have stuck around despite the trash talk and constant whining. There are too many to name, but you all know what I mean. Also, would like to personally thank TedS. He is still replying to threads daily for his incredibly popular mods, and as such have helped many, many with their registration and activity rates.

Lynn is a rock star, by far the most helpful person I have ever seen both here and vbulletin.com. I don't know how she manages to answer as many questions as she does but she deserves some sort of medal for her efforts.

I want to thank Lynne for everything she does here and abroad , she is one of the very few staff members on here that Ive seen go past the point of posting canned replies.

Ive very appreciative of vBulletin.com , vBulletin.org and all the coders and designers and members.

Lynne has multiple times went way out of her way to help me and i see her doing it daily on here as well to others.

If i had any complaints it would be that there is only one Lynne.

Thanks
Chad

Excuse me if this is OT but, I just want to thank the person that has spoke up the most to my questions. Even when they are a bit silly to some of you and not worth your time, this person has jumped in and helped.

Thank you Lynne for being my VB Godess which has made me look so good to my site members.

You do an excellent job and I just wanted to say thank you.

A little girl, only about four years old, was picking up baby sea turtles as they hatched and carrying them down to the ocean one-by-one. Meanwhile, flocks of seagulls were everywhere gobbling them up as fast as they could.

A man walked by and commented, "You can't save all the sea turtles, look around there's thousands of them!" The little girl went about her business, as if she never heard him.

Finally, when he exclaimed "Who cares anyway?" she took the time to respond...

No 'I' can't save them all, and as for who cares? This one does, as she held it up to show him, before setting it down into the water's edge.

----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

While I can't help all the coders here, 'I' can express my thanxx for all their hard work and effort to make vBulletin such a GREAT piece of forum software. Over the past few weeks I've gone through the MODs I've used and tried to donate something to each of the coders responsible for them. It's not much, but I just wanted them to know that I care that they took the time to develop the MODs they have.

vBulletin isn't a cheap piece of software, and if each MOD here were priced according to it's value (to an Administrator) I could not afford what all I have installed. :o

It doesn't cost you anything, but a few minutes of your time to THANK a coder if you're using their MOD(s). That's the least anyone should do, if they understand the dynamics of life and karma in general.

Try the shoe on the other foot; How would YOU feel after coding a MOD, if no one ever really thanked you?

Remember, you can also express your heartfelt :D gratitude by clicking on a Support Developer button occasionally, and making a small worthwhile contribution to this community of tremendous coders. ;)

I only use a few mods at my forum. They do the job and have given no trouble.
To those who wrote the mods I use, Thank You.
A big thanks goes to Bananalive for his help with the forms mod. He demonstrated great patients with me as he walked me through getting it to work. He finally made a template for me to use. I don't use the mod any more but I was really impressed by him.

I want to say thanks and sorry I did not see this post before. If it were not for this site I would have a very vanilla forum because I cannot code a lick.

So thanks coders and any person who contributes anything. Thanks for sharing your gift.
