vBulletin's standard option is to hide members' last online date when they've chosen invisible mode, though when viewing a mod here, There's a label says "Developer Last Online: Oct 2007"

I can see that removing specific date and hour could make it more private, But I still see that label should completely disappear.

i think that the point is not to indicate if the guy was online lately but to see if the developper of the hack is updating his presence as a supporter of his releases... if you are absent for the last 4 months, i suppose you do not support your stuff...

If I were a coder, I'd rather users use the search option and see the last post was made by me if someone wants to make sure of my presence/support than publishing something I've chosen to be private.

I agree with Mazinger. I see it as an invasion of privacy :)

hum, invasion of privacy... technically, if you don't want to be seen, don't release a thing.

It's not going to be changed.

And how can they tell that if you decide not to post when you were online, or the like? You're relying on being able to post at just the right time for others to find out when you were last online.

I agree with Mazinger. I see it as an invasion of privacy :)

Sounds like something I hear mostly from free board hosts (*cough*Proboards*cough*). The 'invasion of privacy' argument for every single thing that is even remotely seen like so by someone (who's viewing a topic, board, online, what they voted...) No real comment on this front, just I don't like this type of argument much.

It's not going to be changed.

And why is that?

Because there is no reason to change it.

You can't find any reason in the earlier posts?

i can tell by experience that your reasons are not Paul's reasons... lol

The information is a broad abstraction as to when the coder was active (We are talking month here, not minute, day, week, but month)...hardly an invasion of privacy, but as Nexialys said, to provide users a general idea as to whether the coder is still around.

Why is it any of their business if the coder is around? Should a user want to drop support for their mod and disappear off the face of the earth (or at least make it seem that way), then why shouldn't they be able to?

The current display of the month a coder was last online in modifications was added after request, and discussion, by members.
(members = users and coders).

I see no change in circumstances that would require us to reconsider this.

Since when should other people dictate the ability for me to have some online browsing privacy? There really is no reason for the "Hide my status" option to be present if you have this breach of it's functionality.

And of course the "users" will want to see whether a developer is around or not. Unfortunately a lot of people here don't contribute to the community, they take and don't give back. These are the kind of people I don't want on my ass just because I have a bug in my modification or what not.

Nobody can see if you are currently online or not when you set yourself to invisible (well except staff). All they can see is which month you where last online.

But maybe we should implement your suggestion and disallow members to set themself as invisible.

There is really no reason to keep repeating the same, unless you come up with new good arguments why we should change the current setup.

Since when should other people dictate...

Strangely, i would put a mirror in front of you here...

I don't think we need another set of arguments among members.

This subject has now been covered, and the answer is quite clear. Thread closed.
