Last week in finishing up our archive for our blog system on our website we found a character change error or display error, where all the Apostrophe's turned into Question Marks. They all had to be manually changed one by one.
I have asked at vb.com and they advised me that this could happen to any forum as well. I also noticed that in originally searching for the troubleshooting of the topic that it has already occurred to forums. All I can think of with boards even 10 times bigger than my own is what a future nightmare that would be to deal with.
The trouble in relation to Curly Quotes and Smart Quotes and copy/pasting into the forum post boxes indifference to just typing in them.
Now the blog we use is Greymatter because vbBlog didn't come out until later and I doubt it can be coded the way we want it to. The people at Greymatter are working on a plug in for there end to eliminate the problem characters. However I would like to suggest a mod/plug in, unless it's already been made to fix this possibility for disaster. I understand and have everytime it's been told to me to just advise your users, but that will not prevent the issue from reoccurring as we all know of that one forum user that never reads an announcement.

Based upon what Steve says if the Editor is an option on the forum, I'd like to set it up for Standard Editor only across the board if that is possible and would eliminate the problem.
