Reason for Nomination: How a non-profit project, we need feedbacks to point us in the right way :). This site is one of references in Brasil in opensource - we have a team of colaborators [volunteers] working to spread good opensource codes. We work using all features of vBulletin and some add-ons.

The beginning: I bought my first licence of vBulletin after see some linux support sites working with vB. And I think about build a space to translate codes - in fact I don't know php, java etc. But my intention is help opensource projects. After all: freedom is choice and free codes makes all better.

Then ... I created the community.

Now: we have a crescent group of members and have a lot of scripts [translated] to download.
obs: in the past, we work the portuguesebr package language of vB in this site. Now, we move this work to other non-commercial project. X-TRAD only works with scripts under CreativeCommons ShareAlike License
The future: we plan build a NGO.

Technologies:
Our sections are: Links [vblinks], DownloadsII, Wiki [nuWiki] and portal [vBadvanced].
We use other vb.org improvements: bbcodes, first post with ajax, who's visited and others. Our intention is create the best enviromment to translators do their work.
Simple and with all tools.
The style was created [logo, forum_icons etc]: using vBseo style how basic style.

And all team can relax listening music [radio and tv hack], or can see the google videos .

Reason for nomination:

I've been running it for a year and a bit now with vBulletin, and in that time I like to think I've got a nice little community going.

It's all designed by me (although the flash in the clock was implemented by one of my members). A lot of effort goes into the design, and it takes a fair bit of time too. Basically it's all me messing around in Photoshop and Dreamweaver when I have a free minute, seeing that I've had no training or lessons in what I do.

I've got a few tasteful mods installed, including Anymedia BBCode, nCode image resizer, NoSpam and a couple of others.

I have a variety of forums for my members to post in (including a popular chat forum), and while we're not the most popular forum on the 'net, it's no ghost town either.

Not sure what else to say, really :). It's non profit, as you'd expect, and server costs are paid for by me (aided by the odd Premium subscription). I have adsense ads, but they're there purely as an incentive to register and in 3 months I've made the grand total of 2p.

Reason for Nomination:
I believe our site changes lives for military significant others who have no other means of support. A lot of our members have deployed husbands, no family around and have been forced to leave good friends behind everytime they have to move to a new duty station. Our site allows members to access information that can sometimes be hard to find even directly from a command, gain knowledge from people who have actually "BTDT" (been there, done that), make "portable friends" that they don't have to leave behind at a duty station and find support even at 2am.

I started the site as NavySOS.com about three years ago, but eventually expanded to include all branches because I had the desire to offer the same support and resources to all branches, not just Navy. Since our expansion in Jan of 2006, we have more than tripled in size, by post count and member base.

I've put hundreds, possibly even thousands, of hours of work into this site, not to mention the money I've put into it, but the lives that our site changes for the better, is what makes everything completely worth it.

Edited to add: most of our forums are open to public but there are a couple of forums that I'm not able to open up to all public b/c we have them set for members to have more than 250 posts to access, mostly for security reasons (personal health subjects, photo albums with our children's photos, etc). I do have most open to public though, and I hope this fits within the requirements.

Reason for Nomination:
I believe our site changes lives for military significant others who have no other means of support. A lot of our members have deployed husbands, no family around and have been forced to leave good friends behind everytime they have to move to a new duty station. Our site allows members to access information that can sometimes be hard to find even directly from a command, gain knowledge from people who have actually "BTDT" (been there, done that), make "portable friends" that they don't have to leave behind at a duty station and find support even at 2am.

I started the site as NavySOS.com about three years ago, but eventually expanded to include all branches because I had the desire to offer the same support and resources to all branches, not just Navy. Since our expansion in Jan of 2006, we have more than tripled in size, by post count and member base.

I've put hundreds, possibly even thousands, of hours of work into this site, not to mention the money I've put into it, but the lives that our site changes for the better, is what makes everything completely worth it.

Edited to add: most of our forums are open to public but there are a couple of forums that I'm not able to open up to all public b/c we have them set for members to have more than 250 posts to access, mostly for security reasons (personal health subjects, photo albums with our children's photos, etc). I do have most open to public though, and I hope this fits within the requirements.

Reason for Nomination:

We have had the forum custom made for us and we would like to think people like the look and layout, the forum as only been up and running for 4/5 months and it is steadily growing.

By putting ourselves up for a nomination, we believe this will give us a good idea if people like what we have done or if we need to go back to the drawing board and see how we could improve it.

We think the forum loads pretty fast, but you can never really tell as not everyone has the same speed broadband.

Reason for Nomination:
We turned vBulletin into a fantastic CMS which is fully integrated with our forum. I have to say that the two months spent on another version of the site based on another CMS was a waste of time. vBulletin did exactly what I wanted.

Our pre-vB site is 5.5 years old. We've been running on vB for over a year now. Our site is very popular for our niche, and we have basically no competition. vB has made our site interactive and has improved visitor loyalty tremendously.
