Forum Title

vBulletin Zone (http://www.vbulletinzone.com/)

Well, someone asked for this, and I thought it was a good idea also, so I went ahead and added it.

What does this do?

This will allow you to change the title that shows up per forum.

Why Would I want to do this?

Well, I cant really answer that. What it does do is allows you to keep the same display name for the forum on forumhome, and allows you to have something more descriptive in the title of that forum. Great for SEO.

Installation:

Import the Product

Configuration:

Go into Forum Manager, Scroll to bottom to find: Forum Title adjust to how you want.

Thats It!

Please Click Install if you use!!!

I don't get this does it change the URL of each individual forum??

Its hard to explain, Instead of having to change the forum title itself, which makes the display different on the forumhome, it will allow you to keep that the same, then get more indepth and descriptive in the page title.

It just re-writes the $foruminfo to whatever you write in the box that is added to the bottom of the Forum Manager for each individual forum.

So if I wrote 'testing' in the box for my 'Announcements' forum, it would appear as 'testing' on forumdisplay rather than 'Announcements' as it is called everywhere else.

But to answer others change the setting I have added, then look in your forumdisplay for that forum. Ie. www.yoururl.com/forumdisplay.php?f=X where x is the forumid that you changed the setting. Now look at the page title, its what's in the box that you added, while the forum name stays the same. Hope this helps a little

Question:

Say if i had img tags as a forum title. Even with alt tags, it still does not parse correctly in the jump menu or the browser title. Will this then replace the unparsed elements and parse them with this extra title?

For an example of what i mean go to:

http://www.nohaxnetwork.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

EDIT: Tried it out, but i couldn't even get it to work on a regular text forum.

Yes, only thing it adds is 1 field into the forum table, and thats it, not other queries are ran.

Not quite sure I understand, but by looking at your forum, you could use my hack to make it display TEXT of what you want to get across, and keep the img under the forumname

Thanks :D

So, the Name of the Forum on the Control Panel won't be Displayed, and the Custom Name Specified for the Forum will be Displayed instead of it??

If that's the Meaning of the Hack, then is a Good, very Useful to manage an Structure of Names in the Admin Control Panel and present a Different Information on the Forums Interphase!!

It will not change the forum name, that stays the same. It changes the TITLE of the page, which is good for SEO

Excellent job, been looking for something like this!

Just 1 missing feature: Setting the title of the homepage of the forum independently of the Forum Name and Homepage Name - as it would be nice to have a full length homepage title without getting this added to every other title of the forums.
If that would make it's way into this modification, it would be a great asset to anyone serious about SEO.

How is this with VbSEO? Does it conflict in anyway?
Cheers

Michael Biddle
01-18-2008, 01:25 AM
Well if you use vBSEO's Relevant replacements how they have it setup, then theres would be better. It is very similar how they change the title to [forum_title] - Yoursite.com. This just allows you to have a custom value into it. Its either one of the other.

Thanks for the mod whitemike! Loco.M suggested it to me and it works great.

Rev O:
The Mod doesn't conflict with VBSEO and I think this actually allows you a better control of your forum titles than VBSEO does. I think it's a great add-on to use in addition.
