View Full Version : Forum Display Enhancements - Cyb - Last Post Info Enhancements
Valter
08-31-2007, 10:00 PM
Info:
This will enable you to show several latest posts for selected forums instead of standard last post info. Number of latest posts is set for each forum separately in Forum Manager. Be noted that this executes 1 new query on forumhome/forumdisplay per forum where you choose to show 2 or more latest posts. In combination with "Cyb - Sub-Forum Manager (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122996)" this can really improve your forum listing look.
Installation:
-Import XML file (as product) through AdminCP: Plugin System > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product]
To set options:
Go to: vBulletin Options > Cyb - Last Post Info Enhancements
Versions:
v1.0 - Sep 01. 2007.
-Initial release

I'm able to find the location of the 2nd screenshot, but cannot find the 1st screenshot. Please kindly explain where I can see them. At this moment I still cannot see the mod working on my forums yet.

Instead of last post info which is shown just before forum thread/reply counts (on forumhome and forumdisplay), this enables you to have shown several latest posts from individual forum.
First screenshot was taken in Forum Manager. Edit Forum > scroll down the page.
Sorry if this is hard to understand, English is not my primary language.
Edit: I've added new screenshot which explains things better...
Symmetrical?

Nice work. Some errors though.
I'm seeing some broken image links on the forum display and on forumhome. Is the code missing something? Or is there an icon we're not downloading?

This is awesome! lets just hope it wont lag my site too much tho.
Well done I was just looking for this one or better say asking at nuhit.com :)
QUESTION: how many querries this add to forumhomepage???
EDIT: I found how many querries it produce in info.txt :)
Does it mean that if I enable 5 forum(trees) I will have 5 extra qurries? Isnt there a way to limit this addon to 1 querry total?
THANKS!!!!
------------------------------------------
EDIT2:
Am I good to go with removing this:
if ($vbulletin->options['cyblpienh_enable_title'])
{
$cyblpi_lastposts .= '<tr valign="top"><td class="smallfont" align="'.$stylevar[left].'" width="100%" nowrap="nowrap">'.construct_phrase($vbphrase[cyblpienh_last_x_posts], $cyblpi_restot).'</td></tr>';
}
in order to remove "Last X post" title from the add-on?
Valter

Don't remove anything. Just check settings page.
Yes, it means that if you enable 5 forums to show x last posts you will have 5 extra queries on forumhome and forumdisplay.
This can not be limited to just 1 query.

ohh sorry i just quick-readed and missunderstood the meaning (i thought that it will remove thread title  )
Thanks for hint

Once I asked programmer about this add-on and he said back then to me that there are two ways to do it. One that will add these many querries and the more complicated one that will add only one querry (probably some cashing or something).
I am not programmer thought so I am not going to argue :erm:
Anyway thanks for your add-on !!!

Hi
I have a little problem. Your hack shows me several latest posts on FORUMHOME.
The actual poster was Tester the next one Stoebi etc.
If I clicked on Stoebi, I got from user tester his profile. Also if I clicked on Webmaster, i got the profile from user tester etc.

/me click installed.
Great stuff Cyb. I have some long sub-forum names so used your other product to make them a single column. This additional enhancement fills out the blank space in those areas very nicely indeed. Thanks!

Hi again :)
I've found a little bug. Moved Thread with "Leave Permanent Redirect" or "Leave Expiring Redirect" should not displayed on FORUMHOME.

So anybody will say where to found area of the first attached image? It seems first everybody don't know where it is, and after that they found out, but nobody say where it is? So I also need to search? Until now I don't see any difference even I installed this product.
Edit: OK, I was found out where it is.

Cybernetec, there is a proposal to add selection of different formats/teplates for info output.
The target is to make output more compact and this one will allow to display more information.
I attached some remade screenshots.
I think you will understand the idea :)

Something is wrong with it.
When showing lastposts with this Mod it is showing the Icons:
/images/statusicon/post_new.gif
/images/statusicon/post_old.gif
But our other last Post Display doesnt have that images.
Any idea ?
EDIT:
Sorry, just checked the Options now, it can be turned on and off :)

I've installed and tested it.
One Qustion: There are the statusicons which display wheather a user has already read a topic or not. However there seems to be a difficulty with updating the statusicson. When a user reads a topic and returns to forumhome then the topic he has just read is still marked as unread.
If I mark all forums as read then the status icon switches to read. But this is not very handy and most users will have difficulty with this.
Is there a solution to improve this process?
Thanks.

After further testing it becomes obvious that this module should include the functionality which displays a small icon in front of the thread title in case the specific thread carries a new unread post. As soon the user reads the thread or the post this icon should disapear. Similar to the latest threads mod in vBa CMPS. This is a very simple process but highly effective for users, because they directly see what they haven't read yet without having to keep post times in mind.
This small addidtion would tremedously improve the user experience.
@ Cyb: May it be possible for you to provide me with a feedback whether this improvement is a doable or not.
Thanks, etterra

"unread" means that there are posts created after your last visit.
When last visit time is updated then threads are marked as "read".
It's how this works currently.

Thanks for the response.
I see a disadvantage in this in terms of the user experience. Because the last visit time update is not real time. Regular posts in vB 3.6 use the database function for the read topics and as soon a topic is first viewed it is marked as read in the forum topics overview. My users are used to this behaviour.
The disadvantage from this hack is, that the intution is lost and users don't directly see which topics they have just read and which they have not yet read - in the current session.
Are you interested to extend this hack with this functionality? I'm willing to pay a little to support your development expenses.
Thanks, etterra

You don't need to pay for it. I'll update this when I have some time. I can not say atm if it will happen tomorrow, or next week, or next month,...

next week is next month ;-) well do you have an estimate in what time frame you have time to look at this?
thank you.
