EPC :eek: "Sorry We Are Closed" :eek: Forums Mod
*Business Minded*
This hack came from the idea of a certain request here:
Opening Hours for a forum ?! (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=132037)
So we decided to do this and take it on, see the below screen shots to see how easy it is to work with.
How it works:
1. You set the time frames to open and close within your vBulletin Scheduling (CRON)
2. When you do the Phrase:
Phrase: forumclosed
Text: Sorry, this forum is now closed for posting. Please check back later.Change the above to whatever you want it to say per your likings.
3. Pick the forums by using the multiselect, that you want closed at the specified times in your CRON setting in Step one.
4. Nothing more... Everything will run as normal and (AUTOMATICALLY), no posting will be allowed within your times you specified.
Installation Instructions:
All within the Zip file!
Installation Time:
2 - 3 Minutes
Installation Complexity:
SIMPLE
Support:
Only given to those who mark install, if you have questions before installing feel free to ask.
Feedback and all is greatly welcome, if you have suggestions feel free to load them on here.
Please click install if you like this and will be putting it to good use!

Yes but all posting is turned off... I would allow the content to stay there for search engine reasons... Unless you don't care about search engines on your forums???
Let me know because we built this hack for you about 6 months later I think :D

this can be handy

if i can use it for that porpse
I would allow the content to stay there for search engine reasons

Yes you can do this, they will view the forums, but are not allowed to post :)

HAHA well I think it's a valuable add-on for anyone, just even as you said and then others that love to close their forums down for the night so they don't allow spammers to post up a storm ;) Thanks for the feedback, with feedback like this we will surely keep them coming.

This is a great tool, it's better than seeing the slogan we are closed for downtime and etc.. :) So give yourself the window and it's done.

hi again,
i tested it now :)
two features i would find nice:
- the whole forum (means the content, threadoverview) should be turned off, also it shouldn't be found by search engine
- then the closed message should be viewed in the main area where normally the thread overview is shown.
you understand me? sorry for my bad english ^^

This should be done easily within the forums area that you selected when you first started to use this...

I would love to be able to do this with a single forum - set it on a timer, and have it close automatically. (I mean, as opposed to the entire board.)

Can Make This Work For 3.7.0 RC 3 And 3.7.0 x
ricker
07-08-2008, 03:25 PM
Is this working in 3.7.2?
I have some host-based server maintenance going on tomorrow and this script would be perfect for shutting my board down in the wee hours so I can sleep through it! :)

If anyone is using this with vB 4.x, you can make the closed notice show up like this...
In the FORUMDISPLAY template, find
{vb:raw navbar}
and insert this underneath it:
<vb:if condition="!$foruminfo[allowposting]">
<div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; color: red;">
<!-- your closed message here -->
The message board is not currently accepting posts. Please see the FAQ for more information.
</div>
</vb:if>
Still works like a charm.
