self deleting posts

is there any way to create posts that will delete themselves on a specific date? i don't mean age cut-off. each post has its own self delete date. is there any mod/hack that does this? i've searched and couldn't find it. would it be too dificult to code if needed?

please tell me something about this, i really need it.

No never seen it done, but using the Scheduling System built into vBulletin it could be done... Good luck on it though!

Yeah because on the aspect of someone quoting like ragtek said, you can't delete that one unless you manually delete it by catching the quote... So all in all it'll be just for main posts only.

My main question for you on this is:

Why on earth would you want to make posts delete on a specific day? I just don't see a logistics behind it for one only if you wanted to keep a smaller database :)

I do know there is a modification that after a certain date of not being used, it would close it... let me check for you

for what i really want, there's no problem with quoted or not.
i want the whole thread deleted.

the main goal is not to keep a smaller database, it's something else but i cannot give it away yet ;) lol, as we say in Portugal: secret is the business's soul. lol.

but i could use some help thought 'cos i'm still not completely familiarized with the way data is processed from vb to the db.

still: if anyone knows anything about this kind of stuff i'm trying to do, please say something.

Why not just create announcements? They go away on a certain date.

TTG: thanks, it's not quite what i want but it's getting there ;)

it's suposed to be the poster to decide the self destruction date and time and the post to really get deleted from db, not go to trashbin.


i'll try to talk with Farjad, who did the FA Self Destruct Thread, maybe he could help me.

in the meanwhile, should anyone still know anything about this...
