We have a great asset on our forums, and its the Marketplace, items for sale, etc. However we have problems with scammers lately and wanted to hear some suggestions on preventing scamming.

One suggestion was to require x months before allowed to post in the marketplace, and give them a option to pay x $ for the rights to post prior to the x months.

Im not a big fan of this however, so is there any modifications or methods I should look into? Thanks!!

Other than what you already posted, there is not a whole lot you can do.

You can use a forum to "recommend a sell/buyer" a feedback system basically. but other than that, not to much.

As for the waiting period, that isn't going to do much, as if i was the scammer and knew that, i'd just wait my time out and then post my scam.

You could do it two ways though and require a minimum posting req (10 posts) & the waiting period, but the user could simply wait out both limits, make the required 10 posts and off to posting scams again he goes.

There is a mod that allows all messages by a staff member to be verified... I use it, it works well...

scammer are everywhere on the net, there are even many here on the Org
the staff wont do anything about it, you'll have to either work with it, or shut down your marketplace
maybe make sure the groups that can use the marketplace are good members
