View Full Version : Location for styles

I've checked out a few styles from here and other sites and it seems to me that there is no standardized location to put them in. I've seen /forumhome/stylename/, /forumhome/images/stylename/, /forumhome/images/styles/stylename/, and /forumhome/styles/stlyename/.
I'm tinkering with my own styles and want to make sure that should I release one, is there any kind of standard for this?

No, there is no "standard" way, but in my opinion, /forumhome/stylename/ is the best option.

As Dismounted ha said there is no standard way. On one of my larger sites I have all of my images on a subdomain.
For skins I make for clients and sold on my site I've always use: forumhome/images/styles/stylename.
Its just personal preference really.

Yuck. :P Sounds like a nightmare for skin users... having skins thrown about willy-nilly all over their installation.
Yeah I suppose that the user could edit each one's XML to change the addresses ahead of time, but it seems so much easier to make a standardized location relative to forumhome (when not serving from a subdomain like MaestroX's large board).
For skins I make for clients and sold on my site I've always use: forumhome/images/styles/stylename.
Coincidently, for the first style I made (3.5.x) I used /forumhome/images/styles/stylename/ as well. But I'm migrating it to /forumhome/styles/stylename/ as I finally get around to fixing the broken images. Why there? I'm digging them out of an old phpBB backup I had, and ALL themes were required by phpBB to be in a /forumhome/templates/stylename/ directory format...so I decided to standardize my vB styles on that premise (since I'm still relatively new the vBulletin).
