I have a website.

Website A.

I have now purchased website B.

Website B is an add on to Website A.

I went to upload vbulletin and its telling me its already installed.

How do I get VB to the new website? I want it to be on both sites. It will be two completely separate forums!

Thank you!

Right. You can't install one license on 2 different sites.

Maybe that is my problem. I was told by "a friend" that I should be able to install it since the server address is siteB.siteA.com

If you only owned 1 license, you cannot use it on Site B unless you shut down Site A.

Wow that sucks. I wish I would have known that before I spent the $ to set up the new site. So now I need to buy a new license? Where can I find that disclosure?

yep you have to buy a second license for the second site

there are forums where you go to a certain category and it links you and opens up a new forum in a different skin. is that a second forum or a hack?

Hack and another license.

1 license for each domain. So if you owned 10 site, you'll need 10 vBulletin license.

You can't get your money back unless you have another hosting package, but you won't be able to get money back for the domain. Once the year is up, don't renew the site B.

well I need the domain because the sites are totally not related. I am so bummed out now. Its 4:36am and I have been working on this all night.

There used to be a section either on here or .com where people could sell their licenses... I don't see it.. it is gone? I can not explain buying or leasing a new license to my husband. he will freak!

I haven't slept after work (1 am) and it's 7:40 am.

You want to sell the only license you have of vBulletin or the domain name?

vBulletin.com nor vBulletin.org offer user(s) to sell vBulletin License (unless I'm missing something). You'll just have to browse (google, yahoo) and see if anyone outside this site wants to sell their license.

160 isn't that much for another one xD

hahahahaa I will tell my husband that and see what he says. lol

Thanks for the help! One last question.
If I have a phpbb site can it be converted to VB? (looking for a temporary alternative)

Yes, you can import PhpBB to vBulletin, IPB to vBulletin, SMF to vBulletin, and whatever forum is out there.

You can download the implex at the member area (free) and all you have to do is import database from phpbb to vBulletin.

Now, if you wish to learn before you do it to your main forum (where member post). You can always set up a test vB.

What is a test vB?

It allow you to have 1 license and have two vbulletin under 1 domain. However, you cannot have public see the site nor let them know about it. The test vBulletin allow you to test things before you do them to the master forum.

This way, you don't have to pay someone to do that work unless you're willing to give x amount of $$$ to whoever wish to do this work.

Fortunately I have learned from my mistakes. I paid a lot of money to set up my first site. THEN my sister told me her husband used to do this for a living. Ooops. So he is my tech support on my site currently. I have since taught myself SOME coding.. but he is the wizard. lol

Thank you for all your help. I think if I can't find a license (I have sent some emails) I will just do a license free board and then convert it to vb when I can buy the license.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Don't forget that if you import with impex, you got to reset the passwords

We all make mistakes and sometimes I regret my self and paying someone to fixs my config.php when it was one simple thing to do to begin with.

There are always free lancer (like me, depending on the forum size, etc). It's best to get a new one cause you may never know if he/she license is about to expired :D

And yes, once you do the import with implex, you'll need to reset password.

Ok..I am back.

I went ahead and just leased a new license.

But I am getting the same error.

Step 2) Connect to the database

Attempting to attach to database

Connection succeeded! The database already exists.

You have already installed vBulletin; do you wish to upgrade?

Do you wish to empty your database for a new install?

If you a new license, just overwrite them by deleteing what you have. It will put in the new one. So no worry there.
