How do I add a hyperlink?

I want to include a link to our forum rules and security area on my website and was looking to include the link in the PM that is sent out after account approval. I have tried various HTML for adding links to no avail.

Is there anybody out there that can lend a helping hand?

Ive used

<a href="http://www.mysite.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=244">Forum Rules</a>

But it just shows up as the above in text.

1) Maybe autoparse is turned off

how do i do this so that when i click on insert link it automatically gives you the link with just rules displayed is this a template change or add on
