Well with the image verification and nospam addon, I've had a bot/spam free forum. However! this week I noticed a few users aka. botz have made it through and not JUST on my forum either. I'm wondering how the heck they made past the nospam and the image verification?
BTW the username is 7Case, so if you see it then chances are it's a bot. The bots threads seem legit, but I noticed the bot has spamed many game related forums. Mabye it is a person? not sure.. The user basically posts 3 threads and the SAME ones everywhere and does it, so they can advertise via sig
anyone encouter this user or something similar lately? :erm:

What you need to bear in mind is that no system is flawless. Spambots, if indeed that is what they are, will always find loop-holes round your typical anti-spam system. But in answer to you question: Nope, never heard of 7Case.

1- disable siggies for new members... so they can't advertise there... if you let such features open, like avatar, profilepics and siggies, sure they will use them
2- there are not bots anymore, they are real humans hired in hackers teams to spoil/troll forums they know would make a little noise to advertise them. if your forum is on google, sure they will register and spoil your forum if they have permission to do so, because what they post can be indexed by google, so it make advertisment for them... that's why they are hired by these spam companies... no system whatsoever will protect you from that... the only thing you can have is a team of moderators...

I have to agree with you. The guy seems like a human, going around gaming forums and spamming. Because he not only broke through the image verification and the nospam addon, but even broke through tags for creating threads.. So I guess hes a human spammer, paid to spam at forums.
As for the no siggy for new users, I should really implement that for sure.
Thanks for your help :)

Just noticed.. no option for limiting sigs etc..in usergroups or vboptions... Unless a new usergroup is created?

put your new members to a regular usergroup with restrictions, and use the Promotion system to give them a better usergroup when they reach X posts etc...
