What is this AddOn:

This AddOn is a membermap for vBulletin. We coded this AddOn in german and published it on vbhacks-germany.org first, here you will find a stable version in english now.

Your users can add their location on the map... Have a look at it and check yourself.

Most countries in europe are done by now, so if you want to use this AddOn and wish a special country, then let us know and we will upload it.

Installation::

- Upload the files in the 'upload'-folder via FTP.

- Chmod (0777) the following files:

- /vbmembermap/data/vbmembermap_de.data
- /vbmembermap/data/vbmembermap_eu.data
- /vbmembermap/data/vbmembermap_at.data
- /vbmembermap/data/vbmembermap_ch.data

- /vbmembermap/maps/vbmembermap_de_1.png
- /vbmembermap/maps/vbmembermap_eu_1.png
- /vbmembermap/maps/vbmembermap_at_1.png
- /vbmembermap/maps/vbmembermap_ch_1.png

- /vbmembermap/clientscript/vbmembermap_popup.js

- Chmod (0777) the following folder:

- /vbmembermap/backup

- Install the product-file 'vbmembermap-product.xml' in your AdminCP

After your are done with that, follow this instructions:

In AdminCP -> vBulletin-Membermap:


Install the wanted geodata under 'Geodata'
Install the wanted maps under 'Maps'
Choose standard map under 'Maps'.
Generate the maps under 'Tools'.
Generate the statistic under 'Tools'
Choose the right in the usergroups for vBulletin-Membermap

The european map is nearly finished and we included most countries from which we had geodatas from. We got geodatas for the US (and other parts of the world) already and we will keep on working for a worldmap now.

As a matter of fact, we create the maps ourselfs as we don't want to get into troubles with any copyright. That always takes a little while... :o

As this is the first mod which Robert and I made (Robert is very soon going to register aswell) for vB it would be nice, if you guys find anything we need to know (like how to make what better and so on...).

If there are other european countries needed then let us know and we will do our best to upload them as fast as we can.

The problem is, that we do not really speak French,

Creating a map really takes some time, it's not only drawing a picture.
Vossi worked the whole day on the US-Map..... the world? we are going to map it! ;-)

if we will get such data, we would be able to provide a "Saudi Arabia"-map...

It is possible to remove the state in front of the zipcode, so that people could enter e.g. 10001 for New York instead of NY 10001.

Surprisingly, I have asked this question of a number of existing map programs, even google maps, and although I have found it is possible in all of them, it never gets mentioned. Yet there are so many community created maps for fictional worlds! Anyways, I look forward to seeing this in the distant future, thank you for the response. ;)

A separate membermap could also take over who's online, or become another option for viewing who's online. After the card has been created, it can be saved and loaded right into the vBulletin-Membermap.

Duh!!! I totally saw where you mentioned that before I installed, but I thought I didn't have to do it until the end. Thanks.

Now I have a bug. On the map page, in 'Own userdata for map-entry:' The county field and 'save entry' button do not show up. So if I enter in my state and zip, then hit enter, they show up for a millisecond as the page refreshes. I had to stop it just as I hit enter and then click save entry. After doing this though, all the fields and buttons show up correctly when refreshed.

About a seperated map: Actually, it shoudl be possible from it's technic...
Just wondering if the 104 english has been fixed yet. Useing the usa map you can type in a zip code but theres no way to save it.
Now I have a bug. On the map page, in 'Own userdata for map-entry:' The county field and 'save entry' button do not show up. So if I enter in my state and zip, then hit enter, they show up for a millisecond as the page refreshes. I had to stop it just as I hit enter and then click save entry. After doing this though, all the fields and buttons show up correctly when refreshed.
Please delete the cache of your browser and then please reload the site again. Which browsers do you use?

name of the place (e.g. Riyadh) | ZIP of the Place | longitude of the plce | latitude of the place

That's what we need.

maps.google.com can't provide such a table filled with postalcodes. :-(

And we do not like to send every request of postal code
to the Google API, because that would be an external request
for every user wich is making a map-entry.

It is always safer to use only the own, internal system (the own MySQL-Server),
and not the serviced provided by any external company.

That's why we do not use the google map. ;-)

Everything seems fine to me, although I haven't tried it with more than one user. Pop-ups are showing, and my previous problem with the save entry button was fixed obviously. I will update with the new map and post any bugs.

On the membermap page the user info default title is "Information for own entry" could probably be changed to something like "User Information" or "My Info".

"This text is getting show when the map is turned off" could be changed to "Message displayed when the map is turned off."

"Here you can choose if you want to check for changes of the usernames whenever maps are getting generated" could be changed to "Allow Membermap to check for username changes whenever maps are generated."

"Headline of the input area?" should refer to the default title of the user area, and using Title or Header would be more correct than using Headline, so it could be "Title of the input area", or better yet "User Info Window Title" (without the question mark.)
"Name of the Headline in the window where the users can enter their data for an entry" could also be changed to "The title of Membermap's user information window."
"Headline of map output area?" could also be changed to "Map Window Title". "Name of the Headline in the window where the grafic of the map gets shown" could be "Title of the map display window."

It looks like you forgot to configure the standard-map. This can be done in the map-options (in admincp).

Why would a site provide some info from their site which is useful to us. I think gettin a database is really a tough job. Still m lookin for the same thing.

I mentioned using fictional or alternate maps and they liked the idea, but it won't be added as feature until later. From what Vossi said, it would take custom geodata and rebuilding tables. So really it isn't possible right now without extensive modding on your part. Sorry. :(

When you look at a .map-file, you'll find the construction (length, with of the map, geodata for north/east/south/west and so on....)

Dude, as a matter of fact I'm not responsible for converting any datas of any former map-versions from other coders. I gave a small script to you which works fine for me and other users, so please go and try yourself. I'm not going to take care of any old codings from other people which you run with your forum, I told you twice! Just install that map, tell your users to put their entry into it and it'll work fine. :mad:

. My twist idea is to define location on the map by Who's Online. So different areas would represent different forums and threads. Obviously it would show who is where on the map based upon where they are on the forum. Sort of a visual map of your forum's current activity.

I like this idea, sort of creating a "fiction country" for my board. Now what if someone creates another hack linking this map hack with Living Avatar hack, I could sell real estate out of Living Avatars and have the location appearing on the map. Wouldn't it be cool?

Either the graphic or the data file ist not set to 777. Did you already check that?

That will definately be part of version 1.0.5 - then the users can create their own country or whatever with fictious places and locations.

Also it will be possible to add POIs to the maps like 'Here is McDonalds' or 'Nightclub' or whatever....

Great MOD!

I have three suggestions that I think would take it to the next level.
1. The ability to add points of interest.
2. The ability to have the State listed after the city. In the case of the US, only the city is listed.
3. Require zip code upon registration. It is pretty easy to make required fields when registering, but it would need to post that field to the database table used by membermap. This would make it so that all new users would be automatically added to the map.

If you don't like my reply, that's not my fault. If you can't handle the lack of support other then "check that it's (777) then maybe you better stop asking others to hold your hand. I'm not a noob to Vbulletin, nor to the plugins or computers for that aspect. It's been an issue that has been posted on in more then 30 days with 1 reply saying nothing more then make sure it's 777. If you think because it installs on 300 computers and 1 fails it's the failed computers fault, then you really need a clue.

Uninstalled. If ya don't like it, oh well. I didn't say anything disrespectful. I just said I uninstalled and why. Now go back to your hole.
