vBulletin 3.6.8

vBulletin 3.6.8 is a maintenance release to improve the stability of vBulletin as well as providing required compatibility for the vBulletin Blog addon. The Blog therefore will require 3.6.8 as a minimum to function.

Changed files and mandatory template changes are listed below.

We have also fixed various bugs since vBulletin 3.6.7 was released, these fixes include:

22080: Internet Explorer locks up on forumhome (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22080)
22260: Quick Reply causes errors with PHP 5.0.5 (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22260)
22242: Show edited by appearing incorrectly (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22242)
22289: Email activation can lead to the wrong usergroup being selected (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22289)
22667: Suspected file versions identifies addons incorrectly (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22667)
22293: Support for Safari 3.0 on Windows (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22293)
See other bugs fixed in 3.6... (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?do=issuelist&projectid=6&issuetypeid=bug&appliesversionid=g7&issuestatusid=4)
Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.6.8 is a maintenance release and we recommend that all customers upgrade to benefit from many bug fixes and stability improvements.

No patch or plugin is available to bring previous versions up to 3.6.8 without a full upgrade, as the various changes to implement all the bug fixes represent a large number of changes. To get the fixes from 3.6.8 onto your own board, you must perform a full upgrade.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here. (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/upgrade)

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.6.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

End of Life for PHP 4 announced

The PHP group recently announced (http://www.php.net/index.php#2007-07-13-1) that support for PHP 4 will end on December 31st, this means there will be no security updates or bug fixes for PHP 4 after this point. We seriously recommend that you consider upgrading to the latest version of PHP (5.2.3) and MySQL (5.0.45). vBulletin 3.6.8 supports both of these without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/editconfig) on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in our currently released versions.

Download vBulletin 3.6.8

As usual, vBulletin 3.6.8 is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

vBulletin Members Area (http://members.vbulletin.com/)

You can read the full announcement at vbulletin.com: vBulletin 3.6.8 Released (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237919)

how did you upgrade?
upload everything and run the upgrade and then reinstall any mods? or did you do all the changes manually?

I uploaded all the files and ran the upgrade. I tested the basics of all the mods I have and all seemed well.

However, since my style is so different, I have the luxury of generally not worrying about template changes at all since they're unlikely to affect me unless they have to do with the editor.

it wouldn't be the first time. i still have two confirmed bugs that have been around since 3.6.5 that they won't address. they just claimed fixed (when it's not) or "not a but" which it is, or cannot reproduce, when they won't follow my steps to do it 100% on a default setup. crazy!

You're using Vista (or have Office 2007). XP (or other OS's) don't have the font called 'consolas'
But I still think lucida console is much better.
I hate the fact that they use specific font names rather than the generic font families.

Just done my first upgrade, was pretty painless. Took me just under half an hour, but that included reverting all the templates and manually editing them all.

What's the best way to deal with template changes? There must be a simpler way than going back through the instructions for each mod and manually editing all the updated temples.

Your vBulletin (3.6.7) does not appear to be running the version that was downloaded (3.6.8).

This generally means your upgrade was not successful. Please ensure that you have uploaded the latest files and click here to try again.

If you are sure you wish to continue with this part of the upgrade, click here.

It's possible it also came with other Microsoft products (like Visual Studio 2008 beta or something).

Anyway, you can download the font here (if you have visual studio 2005): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=22e69ae4-7e40-4807-8a86-b3d36fab68d3&displaylang=en

But be warned, consolas is a crappy font when you don't have font smoothing enabled

Because of the mandatory template edits you must have a 3.6.8 style in order for it to work without problems. (Though a small number of skins may work without adverse effects).
