Hi to all!
I found... I don't know who is he - admin or user?
I mean Chen (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=1), Formerly vBulletin.org Owner and Founder
His reg.date is 20. Sep 2001.
And reg.date of user with uid=2, Sinecure (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=2), is 29. Oct 2001
So what does it mean? Is vb.org was closed in period 20 Sep - 29 Oct in 2001?
And the second question- why Chen is no longer visit us?
Chen started vBorg (a hackers site for vb)... It was bought by vBulletin and was made official... Chen had other projects (Hivemail) going on and moved on... it was volunteer then it's volunteer now; it's changed a little but still the same goal: vBulletin Modifications. :)
Things have changed but here we are... ;)
And the second question- why Chen is no longer visit us?

he was a great guy.. vBorg was the best the times he ran it... I miss those days..
Search people! :)

Anyway a few more tid-bits from the olds days;
- At one point hacks were hosted on vBulletin.com's forum. Once vB.org became "semi-official" these threads were merged into this site. I think the users were to...honestly I'm not sure. If you've noticed some REALLY old threads with posts from guests and ever wondered why...well now you know! :)
As for FireFly (Chen)...well all I can say about him is he was someone everyone looked up to. In many ways he was the heart of and soul of this forum for a very long time...a leader by example and someone you could always have a friendly chat with. :) I'm sad to say that I didn't get to know him very well before he left us. But I learned much from him and his work. :)

To me you're still that crazy old man that gives good advice! ;) I advise you all to listen to this man, he's very wise because he's very old. :p

I always was wondering the samething. Who was this "Chen" and how come he doesn't have the title as "Administrator?"
Is he under secondary usergroup?

Question: Can he get his status back in the near future?

That is a non-issue at this time.
If this situation will ever occur it will be discussed and decided on at that time.
Chen is an ordinary member now, not an Administrator.
Firefly will never be an ordinary member to many of us. I know you meant it as a title position, but in many hacker minds and hearts, he is still the administrator of this site, not to mention a true friend.

Chris, I bet many don't have any idea what was that. Heh, it was fun when we saw it.
Was it you who made the box? Don't remember. :)
Chen was our vB God (the one who started it all) and still is to many of us.
Exactly my words, Bobby. Many have no idea how helpful Firefly (aka Chen) was.
For those of you who are new to this site (less then 3 years, means you are new): Firefly registered the domain vbulletin.org and Sinecure created the first vB.org style, Midnight Blue. I had a small contribution also, I created the second vB.org logo. :)

When I look at those old threads, there are so many good souvenirs that pop into my mind. We used to be like a little family in the beginning, only 100 members talking about PHP only. I still have Firefly on my MSN list and I see him popping up on a regular basis.
I tried to contact him 2-3 times, because we used to talk a lot.
He did not answer, so I respected his decision. I wish I could talk to him again, he is a great guy and I miss his conversations.
Chen, if you are reading this, please contact me. I really want to know if you are happy and well, that's all. You can PM me or message me on MSN.
Your friend,
Floren

Yeah, that Chen guy seemed like a real expert. I didn't know him. But when I come across some of his replies in posts at times while searching. Mainly Firefly. The way he just posts answers to problems as though its second nature to him.

I only got the chance to talk to him one time, and he really did seem like a class act guy. I wish he would come back and run this community the way he did back then.
Come back Chen!

I'm still waiting for firefly and Lesane to come back. Then again, maybe Lesane has been under our noses the whole time and we don't even know it, since his username is banned.

What happened with Lesane? I wasn't here when he was, I just went to a board that used one of his hacks, as I remember his name being somewhere in a copyright or something.

Not sure if I'm allowed to say... but he's the original coder of the store hack :)

Heh. I thought he was. I went through and looked at his last few posts, I didn't see anything bannable. :O
I can't remember why he was banned and I don't see any point in bringing up old drama so lets just leave it be. ;)
He did code the first store hack for vB2 although you won't find it here any more. I remember the source files begin mostly comments though...don't ask me what they said...the swear filter would probably catch it anyway. ;)
IIRC there were multiple exploits in that hack aswell..I can't remember if they were ever fixed by the author or not.... With that said..under the current policy I hope no one goes looking in the vB2 forum for old bugs >.> Bound to be a lot of them..;)

Mike (the developer) was the original founder of vBulletin.org and from him the green style comes. Later I believe chen restarted the site and such continued on to what it is now.
Lesane got pissy because he was pirating stuff and decided to up and leave. His forums run invision now, or they did last time i was reporting him to invision for piracy.

So how comes vBulletin paid Chen for the domain then (if thats true posted higher above that chen registered it and vB bought it from him). If Mike (the developer) was the original owner before Chen, he would have been the person who would have bought the domain name in the first place. And Chen would not have owned it to sell on to vB.
Unless of course Mike gave him the domain and changed register details over to Chen, so he was the new owner to be able to sell it. If thats the case, I bet Mike was rather pissed at that. Chen must have got a really decent price off vB in the sale. While the original owner Mike would have got nothing.
Unless, Mmmmm; Mike is Chen :)

I bet he loves you now :)
Out of interest, why would you report him to IPB for? You don't have anything to do with IPB. Did you have a grudge against him or something. There are a million and one P2P sites you can report if thats what you enjoy doing all day! Including many vBulletin boards..
I'm curious why you "singled" him out!
I already posted a link that explains all that MRGTB. I'll post it again incase you missed it; https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=437757&postcount=28

Here is one of Chen's posts explaining that he left to go to school. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=803381&postcount=19
I also remember him saying he was leaving the world of 'virtual insanity' behind which is what online communities are sometimes.
He was also the founder of Hivemail.com which was an early email program with much promise and many users which he transferred ownership to another person (tubedogg) when he resigned. Though I do not believe Chen wrote the Hivemail script it was a decent script and ahead of itself at the time. Unfortunately the newer owner ran it into the ground for reasons unknown burning many users.
Chen was a good coder and a good leader of the community back in the earlier days.

Hivemail was beta tested here at vB.org...I was one of the testers. :) Back then it wasn't called hivemail though, and Chen was not sure if it would be released for free (obviously it wasn't as it went one to become a commercial product). I remember yelling at him because the preview feature didn't work in non-IE browsers at first...;)
I'm not draging up anything old or wasnt public knowlege back in the day :P
The point is; It's old news, it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, and there is really no point in bringing it up, ever. Just let it die...if anyone cares to find out that badly they can use search and google.com.
I wasn't even friends with the guy and seeing him accused of piracy still bothers me...especially coming from you (as a member of the support team and a personal friend). For all I know he may be a pirate...but it's not my job to go snooping into his business to find out. Nor is it my place to talk about it here as if I have soild proof of him doing it.
We all know that if he was still here you wouldn't post what you did. At best it wouldn't be allowed because you're personally attacking another member...at worse he'd see it and a flame war would result with people taking sides...and the only result would be the closing of this thread by a senior staff member a few hours later.
In my opinion you have a problem with him on a personal level...for what reasons I don't know and don't care to know. The fact that you're still chasing him for a petty crime after so many years is proof enough of this.
Please don't take this personal...it just needed to be said (well typed and sent..you get the idea).

I didn't make the box, someone else on here did, but I came up with MyChenQL after he helped me fix several query problems and I praised him as a God of MySQL ;)
