View Full Version : site backup
If I choose a host that does not backup my site is it easy to do it myself? I imagine I want to back up my site on my local HD so if anything ever goes wrong with my host I will be protected.
Thanks,
SOM:)

back your DB using MySQL dumper. It will save a copy of the DB on your FTP. You can then download a copy to your local HD for redundancy.
Thanks Encryption!!! I cannot wait to actually get my site up and running!!!

encryption,
This is going to sound like a dumb question but...where do I place the MySQLDumper folder? When I am using my FTP program and looking at my site would I place the folder right under my sites IP address or in the Public Folder? If I place the folder under my IP address then it will be in the same level as my .cpanel, access logs, ect? I am new to this so I don't want to place my database backup program in a spot that would vunerable to attacks.
Thanks in advance!!!
Jeff

Best way is go for a host which has weekly backups and I dont think that will cost you any extra. Your database will be safe this way.

my host get daily backups ( mysql ) and keep them 10 days on their servers.
But i am still getting my own backups by mysqldumper.... ;)
Thanks all!!! How about the question of where I put the folder on my server?
Thanks,
Jeff

You put it in the forums folder, but doesn't really matter it can be in the root too.
