Is there any way to have the avatar stay on a different server when some one adds an avatar? For example if they submit a Geocitie URL, the avatar stays on Geocities. It sure would save A LOT of bandwidth.

IMHO:
1. It's not worth what bandwidth you save when you end up with numerous broken images. (And also, GeoCities doesn't allow external linking to their images, they figured out people)
2. If they are taking too much bandwidth up, simply disable them. This is optional, remember.

Most people consider that bandwidth stealing and you can get your account with your web-host revoked because of it. Not to mention, as Marc said, Geocities (and most of the other free hosts, and even some other websites) have figured it out and disallow external linking.

but is it possible, we tried to put avatars out, 30% less bandwith, well, it saves a lot of money so we want icons from the web..

We have several servers and we want to put them on a other server, so we dont have so much bandwith usage at the main one!

That would require hacking.

Oops - you're absolutely right, we are in the hacking forum. My apologies. (Was this thread moved by any chance?)
Anyway I have no idea how to do this hack.
