Official vb.org hack revival request list

Shame that so many of the useful brilliant mods are not supported and are simple made with a little bit of effort then dumped here, so many mods here dont work on the latest versions or break when used in conjunction with other mods.

I was told that VBulletin has the best community for mods and hacks when I was searching for bulletin board software to use, I think I was misinformed.

I dont know if it's the best community for hacks and mods, but I would say that it rocks. Since every coder is throwing in his/her free time, you cant expect unlimited support.

Though it would be nice if Jelsoft would sort out the pearls among old hacks and upgrade them. Another thing that may be good in this respect is if vb.org would make a list of old hacks they'd like to see revived. That may motivate some new coders.

Do you think that this is a good idea? Would vb.org consider to post a sticky with a list of add ons, they would like to see revived?

Who exactly are you referring to when you say "they would like to see revived" ?

vb.org is not one person, it's a group of people that changes over time (personally there aren't any old mods I need to see revived, I have all I need).

Anyway, there is nothing to stop you starting a thread in the vbulletin discussion area if you so wish. :)

Yes, but you'd have to recode it as hacks that need "revival" are abandoned by their authors in the first place.

even if it is against the actual rules, i would suggest that everything in the graveyard can be retouched by any coder as it was abandonned by the author.

when a dog is abandonned by its owners, someone in the neighbour can take it home and take care of it... so why not the same with codes ?!

that's bad, but PHP is PHP, a coder does not have any legal ownership on code not released by his own ... when you release something on a site like vb.org, even if you think you are protected, Jelsoft is the only resource that is the owner of the release. this is not GPL here, remember...

a good example is my old work... i released some addons in the past, and Jelsoft took the code OR inspired themselves a LOT to integrate the 'idea' and 'functionality' inside the new release, even without my own consent... they did not have to care, and i did not care either... i worked some code included in a software.
(example of my work included in 3.6: creation date for threads ordering, posts hits for all in threadbits, thread preview options)

most of the time, the coder vanished, that's why they are in the graveyard... why ask for conscent when the guy do not want to hear from vb anymore...

and actually, credits are passed or not, i don't care.. the guy vanished, he does not want to be credited... when someone wants credits, he pass over his work in public.
