Like someone posted above, depends on where you host your forum.
Hosting can cost anywhere from $1 per month to $100 per month, Noone can give you a set hosting cost. Only you can determine your hosting cost by choosing a host.

It all depends on the amount of traffic you expect, and how much server space you need. You also pay for quality. if you are just starting out, and you don't expect it to be an overnight hit or anything you can get by with a pretty good $8 a month shared server package.

Well you can't really have a forum without a site. Your forum is installed on your website, as it were.
So you buy a domain name, add a hosting package with PHP & MySQL, buy the licence, upload the forum, install and configure it. Job done.
To help you on your grey area of hosting costs, here's my forum server costs for the UK..

Our forum is only small :( lol with 600 so members, 145 of them are active, monthly bandwidth allowence is 10GB, we use about 4 or 5 and it's ?9.99 a month.

Can get it cheaper elsewhere these days but happy with service and their support response is very fast and helpful, so why uproot everything. :)

Don't fall for all the hosting hype. When starting any type of site, forums included all you need is:

- 50MB memory
- 1000MB bandwidth
- 1 mySql database
- Should cost between $4 & $6 bucks a month
- As your site grows you just upgrade your plan

Two types of hosts out there, other than the good & bad:

- one owns the hosting company, servers and equipment
- the other is a reseller, who leases a space on a server from the company, that owns the equipment
- go for a small reseller that is on the ball and leases their own dedicated server. You will find members on here, that are into resller hosting and forums. Use a small guy, who is dedicated to web communities and the software that runs them.

This way you will be one of a hundred customers, not one of 800,000.

When I setup a site is runs:

- vbulletin
-vbadvance
-vbadvance link directory
-photopost pro
-photopost classifieds
-reviewpost

50MB space & 1000MB bandwith is plenty, then IF you get traffic just upgrade.

Good luck

No no. There are hosts that cost as little as $1/month, and there are hosts that cost $100/month. It is up to you to choose which host based on what they are offering and what you want out of your website. And hosting for a forum and for a website are the same thing.

Edit: Ah, didnt see this second page. Seems you understand now.

there are hosts that cost $100/month..

There are hosts that cost $1,200 a month. It all depends on your set up, and activity level of the site.

Is this a win95c server? ;)

DJ C Blizzard, you really should do a lot of reading on this forum and vbulletin.com before jumping into this, I can see you are quite new.

Getting some knowledge 1st about servers, hosting, etc. will be a great benefit for you. Keep asking questions.

lmao.... I'm reading thru this post and i can't help but to laugh...:D this guy here needs to do his homework before he commits to do anything...running a server , board and so on is not a easy task for for someone to inquire about it at least you should have some idea.

not to step on his toes ...its good that he asked ....but buddy do you homework:up: before you throw away your money...you can easily get bored at this ..

I would stop and not go any further til you understand what all the ins and outs are before you hit buy now.

You have a lot of reading to do before you get to the buy now point.

Ok, there is a simple misunderstanding here...

1- vBulletin is 169$
2- vBulletin is 169$
... etc, etc etc...

the hosting, the design, the extras, are not related to vBulletin...

you can host your vBulletin on a free server, or a commercial one where you pay some fees... but again, this is not related to vBulletin itself, but the service of "being hosted"...
