If your still experiencing this issue you may want to look at having an alternative for the way the smilies are displayed. I find Princetons template modification works well and eliminates tables expanding to far. You can find the template modification in this Thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=129306).

It may be of some use to you, then again it may not. :)
