<a href="http://www.HoustonUP.com/forums" target="_blank">HoustonUP.com</a>™ - Houston's first unofficial home online.
Keeping Houston in the know.™
HoustonUP.com is basically a website I created where Houstonians can come and jabber about daily happenings. The forum bases itself around the many different aspects of the Houston lifestyle and gives everyone a place to come online and hang out at.
I'm the process of creating an actual homepage which will contain local Houston news, weather information, events and event coverage information, nightlife and clubbing information, etc.

any takes on the idea behind the website and how it looks thus far? :(
please be nice.
Yep, i will, site looks pretty good. I got some ideas though to help you keep spammers out.
Try making all the forums except the rules one member only accessible. So if someone that is not registered tries to look at a forum, they get a log on page. That way they are forced to either register, or log on.
If you mean to attract houstonian's, then you will have to have moderators help you keep control of the posts. Keep it more cleaner, and family oriented.
Come up with posting rules, and general rules that everyone must abide by. This will help you out in the long run.
Look into photopost if you plan on letting members upload pictures. This is a gallery software.
Look into maybe adding a portal type to the home page. Maybe using vbAdvance. This works very well with VB, and gives your board a more attractive feeling to it.
I think the board has a huge potential. You just need to either try to do something similar to what i suggested, or try to be more restrictive as far as posts.
Don't know, but that's my 2 cents worth. There is defenatly more, but this is a good start.
Well, i hope i was not too rough on you. But i have learned a lot from this board. So just sharing what others have teached here before.
Regards,
AG

cool cool.
I have "certain parts" of the boards restricted and at one time had the whole thing restricted but I opened up a little bit of it to get potential members a feel for what the boards are about.
I'm about to revamp the layout. I think the one currently is too boring.
I was considering vbPortal or vBadvanced software but opted out since I will actually be creating a REAL website as the home front and the forums as a link on the main website.
Thanks for your input. :)
