I have been using the Zero Tolerance Flat File Shout Box. (not the Ajax).
Site 5 has shut it down and locked me out of the file vbshout.php so I can not add it or install it. If you are planning on using FlashChat or a ShoutBox on your site do NOT use Site5.com

If any of you know of a place for 100 % certain that will allow this please let me know.

This is correspondences with them.

Subjuect - SHOUTBOX NOT WORKING

Below is a copy of what I just sent to the company (Site5.com) that hosts our site. I am waiting for a reply.

Apparently you guys disabled the shout box cause i just spent 2 hours trying to fix xml product and reading all over the forum from the product designer where it is designed. Apparently you guys did this without even the decent common courtesy of sending me an email and saving me the two hours of my time attempting fix the problem.
The account I purchased had unlimited bandwidth and unlimited databases, (creations).

1. Will you please explain EXACTLY to me why you felt my shout box was a problem for your server so I can pre-qualify my shopping for new host?

2. Again, why not just have not dropped me an email asking me to turn it off?

3. Why not the common courtesy of a notification that you did it so I did not stress myself trying to find problem and waste two hours attempting to fix what I thought locked up?

This type of procedure is just plain rude.

I sure can understand that you ALL may heve decided that YOU don't want it on your server. But not to treat me with some respect and courtisy is just unnaceptable for any professional doing business with me.

Sir,
And this answer is the most information that you seem is appropriate to email me in answer to 3 questions?

What exactly did it do to your server so I know what to tell the place I will be swapping to BEFORE I choose them? To many calls to a database? To much bandwidth over my unlimited? Please explain. I just asked that, to explain. Can you take a full moment and do that?

Also I asked two other questions. Is this all a customer is to you? Blow them off rather than some courtesy?

Regards,

Hi,

The shoutbox can cause load issues due to the way it is coded and used which is why they are disabled and against our Terms of Service. Most hosting companies will disable them as they do cause issues with server load when they are used.

If you have any further questions please feel free to let us know.

If it's in the TOS you agreed to when you signed up, I don't see the problem.

I dont see a problem not wanting something on their server either. Although I have had this up and running for over 18 months and certainly did NOT read about this when I paid up for two years.
Eighteen months, first the Ajax and then over to the FlatFile.
I do see a problem just shutting it down so it appears as non-working and not emailing me some sort of notice.
However my post was only to let others know that if they are going to run a Shout Box or FlashChat to not go with Site5.com. They may not read all the TOS either. And that (I believe) the way they handled it was a bit rude and nonprofessional.

asmallorange.com has no problems with any chat programs i've used.
I will check them out. Thank You.

I use Wirenine, no issues there either. Dont go to siteground, they will end up making you buy a vps account over it.

Given we are with Site 5 and the amount of stuff we have had to deal with this doesn't surprise me. They are very quick to shut down your site. We had a article go nuts and they shut us down with even contacting us first. There is no way you could even come close to using what you pay for there because they don't like traffic at all. We are thinking about leaving as well, most because I beleave we will out grow what they "allow" some time in the next few months.

I am pre-paid for another full year. But I would even take that loss if I KNOW FOR SURE that some other place will not pull this sort of stuff. Like the post above too. And I purchased what they claimed and call the "Unlimited" account.
BTW, no bandwidth restriction in that package.
I have 3 domains within that package too. But two of the domains are pretty much dead sites for personal use only. But as above mentioned if you get busy for an hour, regardless of what package you purchased, they will shut you down if you get too busy for them.

Overselling strikes again. I'm guessing they've sold 3 tetrabytes worth of accounts on a machine with a 20 gig drive. Report them to the Better Business Bureau and leave.

On the hosting side of things, I can understand why they shut it down and sort of
why they didnt have to inform you...

1. Its in the ToS
2. If your site runs a script of any sort that impedes the performance of the server
thus causing issues for other accounts, then they are well within their rights to
disable what ever is causing it.

If the shoe was on the other foot;

If you was hosting a site on a server and another account was using a script that was
impeding the performance of your site, i am sure you would want the account in question
dealt with swiftly? Am i right?

My policy is the very same, although, I would have contacted you, either to tell you to
disable it asap (giving 6 hours to do so depending on the severity) or i would disable
it my self ( if causing a lot grief for the server).

Shout/Chat boxes that using auto refreshing of any kind can cause decent server load
So if many on the server had these chat boxes the server would grind to a halt, thus
there policy states there not allowed!

Perhaps a dedicated server or a vps should be more suited to yourself?

If he payed for it he should get it, and by the way he explained it, he payed for it.

You could use a chatbox or shoutbox that doesn't refresh every 10 seconds, like mine or the MGC one.

that or get a cheap dedicated at exportal.pl
