Catalog Your Movies

You can use this to catalog your movies.


Enable/Disable System
Limit URL(s) that user can add
View all movies by genre
View all movies from an user
Set which usergroups can view the movie list
Set which usergroups can manage their own list such as adding, editing, and deleting of entries
Set which administrators can administer the movie entries.


Here is what I mean by "Limit URL(s) that user can add"... When a
user adds an entry they can add a link so that the movie title
becomes clickable. To prevent people from using URL's that have no
relation to the movie whatsoever you can limit the users to only
have URL's that use "imdb.com". You can allow
users to use any number of URL's by typing them into a box. For
eaxmple if you only want users to have their movie title link to
imdb, netflix, and amazon you would type "imdb.com, netflix.com, amazon.com" into a single-line input box.

Edit :

1- When i edit an entry, it says me : "Please go back and add a title and/or genre" but there is already a tilte or a genre.
2- When i click Yes for "Can Manage Own Media Listings" in usergroups, the user can add an entry but he can delete it, edit, etc.. So i don't see the "Can Administer My Media" in usergroups.

When you edit an entry you have to re-select the genre. I know it needs fixed.
"Can Administer My Media" is in the Administrator Permissions.

In the demo guests aren't allowed to add media. I forgot to write a conditional to hide the button from people that can't use it.

In the ACP --> vBulletin Options --> My Media Settings
Make sure there is a space after each comma in "URL's Allowed".

URL BBCode did not work correctly when it automatically created the thread. Download the ZIP and overwrite "mymedia.php".

The link in the thread works great...but not on the My Movies page.

Ack...I'm sorry, I was thinking you meant the link to the movie at imdb...the link to the My Movies page doesn't from the thread like you said.

I'd love it if you kept developing this. I love the idea since I really need a nice way to organize my movies. If you really get going with it you could set it up so it tries to find the movie on imdb and fills in the form for you. I've seen this done on some other random hacks, but they were always super clunky.

I found a temporary fix for the delete issue...just edit and replace!

I have fixed the conditionals and the delete function. You can show a printable layout of the movies. To view the user's movies click on their name and select "Show all movies from <username> (Printable)". There is a link below the table that will take you to a page that shows the printable layout of all the movies or just a certain genre.

1. I'll have to figure out how to upload images to the database such as the attachment system.

Alright, really cool hack you have going on here, been toying around with it.

I've come across a problem.

After I submit a Movie, I went back to edit it. The Genre selection was set to default "Select A Genre" so I change it. It saved, and then deleted the entire genre category I just selected, deleting all the movies that were also entered in that genre :eek:

that hack is to do an autocomplete on movie titles using imdb.com. You might be able to use the information to add that function to this hack. I'd love it if I typed in the movie title and it auto completed it for me.

I got a request from my users.

They asked if they could somehow export their movies so if the site dies they don't have to re-input them all over again. Is there anyway to do that or possibly allow me to export it from the ACP?

I have this installed (sort of).

I hope it's ok harmor, but I edited it to work with my needs (to catalog comic books). There are a few things I'm still working on, but I did manage to get it working on 3.6.8

I'm trying to get it to sort by title, but it looks like there's code to do that already except for some reason it doesn't work.

I add ORDER BY title to the SQL statement and it works when viewing all titles but then I get a DB error when trying to view titles by genre (or in my case publisher).

There were quite a few bugs I worked out, but they were more than likely my fault anyway as I changed all the variables to reflect what I wanted them to be instead of genre, dvd, etc.

I also noticed that in this thread someone had pointed out that the edit button doesn't work correctly, (It didn't work for me either... it said I had permission to edit an entry but didn't actually make any changes). I ended up just commenting out the edit button and figured they could just delete the entry and add a new one.
